There's some sets there I like but clicking the download links gives me straight warning to not go to the download page, even though it's mediafire. Some links work fine. Are you guys getting the same?

Let me know which links are giving you are hard time. I will see if I have them backed up and can put them on simfileshare.

The ones I tried to download were the "Cemetery decor" (3 angels + stones), the "Carousel" set and the "Columbia" angel statue. I appreciate your help. Not sure what is setting off the warning but I really don't want any viruses or other nasty stuff on my computer, especially after already having so much trouble due to the hard drive failure.

Ok I don't know if I have the Columbia Statue. I will keep looking but I have a lot of files that still need translation to figure out what they are

If I find it I will let you know.

I do know that Jennisims deleted some links due to the objects having issues, being too high poly etc

Oh! I wasn’t aware of that. I’m working on my archive now. I’m going off the way back machine from when the site was active and from what I’ve collected.

Maybe I should include a note with poly count in case I have some of those objects. I need to go find the tutorial on poly counts again.

I remember it was a few years back and someone had issues with a very old object/set of hers that kept causing game crashes, and they publicly criticised Jennisims.

It was really embarrassing for Jennisims because they had removed the links after they were made aware of the issues, way back when it was first released. Links sometimes get removed for reasons that we would want them to be removed, but that doesn't stop bad content from getting out there and being circulated

Checking poly count on all items before I install anything is the way I work and would be great for all people who on-shared content. I do understand that is a big ask though, and everyone should be looking out for their own game, but not everyone knows (or cares) about this stuff, sadly.

oops, you got me started

Oh I am completely with you on this! before I learned about poly counts and broken CC I used to be one of these people just dropping everything I found in my game. Many lessons learned now I am very careful about the old CC I install in my game. I started up a site (and I'm very slowly doing this because I work a full time job as a database programmer) so I am collecting old CC but I'm taking screenshots of poly counts as an info included with the CC. But as I troll reddit I see a lot of people have no clue as to what this means and why their game doesn't work. You can only lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink is my motto. If you don't do the research about why this might cause issues in your game then that's on you.

Part of the issue with the community is we are so far spread on different platforms that newer users have no idea that the older content created was before we understood the ramifications of what it was doing to the game. Like take the Emysims content. The poly counts on the CC are asternomical (thank you @cheriedawn for her conversions) I love the content for babies but when I was seeing a 10kb count on a single decor object I started getting worried.

I take a lot of CC and reduce the count on my own. Uneeded images, categories not set correctly and so on. Maybe at some point someone should create a tutorial on known issues/lessons learned in 10 years.

sometimes content not found might be a blessing.

I think I got you started too

High poly count is out of control atm, especially conversions and it wont stop people who see how lovely something looks and in their game it goes, only to ultimately have a game that is unplayable and then they blame the game. I hate seeing ppl that give up on their game, simply because they don't care to know how to look after it, that new hairstyle is just so amazing they just have to have it and .... KABOOM! I give up, I should just shut up Been playing my game since TS3 came out and although I get the occasional blip (which I manage to work out) I've never not been able to play this game

Hahahaha!!! I"m with you 100%! I was an (i'm going to date myself here) an original Sim City player. I still have all my disks from TS1 and 2 (cracked disks becuase I had a "friend" that would torrent them). I literally have my old gaming tower as well so when I feel nostolgic I boot that dinossaur up and play.

I feel like you can only educate so much. My game runs so smoothly until I do something stupid. (Usually messing with my own mods) but I know how to maintain it and fix it. I run a very heavy mod NSFW and I still fly smooth running my game. I took up converting game objects into useful things when I figured out how to create override scripts.

we should just create a post that says "Things you shold know about CC" and point people to it.
