Default Custom created skin has cut off shadows.
Hi!

I have been doing some digging around this site and have seen similar problems, but not yet a solution that fits for me (I think).
I have tried to recolor a skintone, but it keeps giving me cut off/strange lighting issues. See here:

https://ibb.co/h74FBKy

I first thought it was my reshade so I removed it, which did not seem to be the problem. Especially cause sometimes and with certain clothing it seems "smooth". Then I read here it's probably an issue that files are 512x512 (body) and 256x256 (face/head) and to find the bigger files in SimPE. If I go through my SavedSims folder all files are the same smaller sizes, if I open the original skintone I am trying to recolor I only have 22 of the 40-something files, but they are the bigger ones (1024x1024).

This only happens with skintones I created and on certain clothing, but it's too many items to ignore. Anybody has a clue what the fix should be? If it's the resizing after all how can I find the bigger files of all of them instead of just the 22?

Happy to provide more info if needed! Thanks.

Have you checked the texture sizes in the actual package files with SimPE? Could be Bodyshop reduces the size when importing to the game.

---

If it only happens with some clothes, it could be a mesh issue, due to a problem with shaders and bump maps. Have you noticed any (older) CC hairs/clothes showing up weird in CAS too?

See if the "bright CAS mod" either partly or fully fixes the issue: https://modthesims.info/d/657850/ov...ht-cas-fix.html

If it does, it could be that the clothing meshes (often if they're older) lack some references to bump maps, which causes this issue in CAS. If the clothes/skin looks fairly normal on a lot, that's most likely the problem.

If the skin looks just as bad on a lot, it's most likely a bump map issue from somewhere else.

I found that whatever was explained here was the issue. I had to look literally a second longer before posting. But yes it was the smaller files problem.
