There are tumblr blogs doing this job already. Maybe contributing to them would help the effort of a central hub a bit more than starting another one.

Archiving stuff is always a good idea but don't panic, link decay has been an issue for a while now and there's people who make an effort to find and re-upload old content. There's places like the sims graveyard (http://thesimsgraveyard.com/index.php) and people in the sims crafters discord server (https://discord.gg/E7VTR6FcU2) have links to various archives that people have made.

@bleaksimmer don't assume that the community is dying - all you have to do, in case the original site is down, is ask.

The Sims community is very much not dead. Thank you. A group of modders is working on remaking sims 2. They would hardly have been working hard on this for the past year if we were 'dead'.

Where can I find more information about that?

Its being lead by Lazy Duchess and called OpenTS2 using the Unity game engine. https://github.com/LazyDuchess/OpenTS2

Wow how interesting! I can imagine new scenarios and dynamics as well as animations and interactions :O That's great. Can you imagine more body types as if they were part of the base game?

Also the work we have done with custom hoods can be even more valuable if the game is updated.

The link was too technical for me. XD What exactly are they trying to create?

Re-creating the Sims 2 in a newer game engine.

Will that result in better compatibility with newer systems?

I suppose so, it will also be easier to add new features, similar to OpenRCT, which has kept the Roller Coaster Tycoon community active with an online mode and updates. I don't know to what extent they want to make an online mode or they just want to improve the game. I was reading everything they put on github and it seems that they are making a lot of progress, the work they did previously with Sims Online is being quite useful because they share tech. (I don't understand much about technicalities either, but I got an idea by reading.)

I think the main drivers of the project was to have the game run better and overcome pink flashing.

That's probably the hope - for one example, the Sims 2 is 32-bit, so it can use a maximum 4gb of memory maximum (2gb unless you patch the executable) — part of why CC-heavy setups tend to get a little unstable. A 64-bit engine would remove that limitation.

Few Questions ... does this mean that we'd get a new download for Sims 2? I have my original discs and play off them. Also, what about mods, would it affect the mods we have makin it so we'd need new/ updated ones?

Yes, a new download. I don't know if they plan for it to be compatible with existing mods.

I don't think that anyone would go for it if it wasn't compatible with existing mods and SimPE.

Surely it will be, a installation of the original game will be needed as before, just like with OpenRCT. I'm pretty sure most mods and cc's will be compatible.
