Cresent Isle Midnight Sun Challenge
Welcome to the Cresent Isle Midnight Sun Challenge. This is my spin on the original midnight sun challenge plus some mix of a build-a-city challenge and other rules gathered by other simmers! This challenge rule set is supposed to be used alongside an island I made myself to go along with it. You can find that world download here .
Thank you to the original creators of their respective challenges and rule sets:Gurra09- Midnight Sun Challenge, Clintcasey85- Sims 2 build a city challenge on the original Sims 2 BBS, and Katatty on Tumblr for their Sims 2 version of the challenge.
Backstory: "Your sim(s) don't remember much of what happened. Just that the cruise ship they were on sailed right into a nasty storm, causing it to capsize and forcing your sim(s) into a lifeboat. Later that lifeboat was thrown into some sharp rocks during the storm, breaking a large hole into it, and eventually, your sim(s) lost consciousness. The next thing they know, they're waking up on an island with nothing but water and an even larger island in sight. Welp, the island you washed ashore on has some open space for a shelter, plenty of water about, and tons of fish and vegetation to eat. You suppose there are worse ways to start out on an abandoned island."

Goals: Survive the island life to 5 generations with your legacy family and (Optionally) explore the island and develop it however you see fit within some limitations. You win the challenge once the first child of the 5th generation grows into a young adult AND (Optional part of the challenge) You have developed the island as much as you want to. This can include building houses, parks, beaches, boat house docks, campsites, resorts, and more within the ruleset.
Rules and Limitations :
1. You are allowed to start with 1 or 2 YA sims with any relation to each other, other than parent and child. You can design these sims however you want as long as they look like they just went through a shipwreck when first starting the challenge (No fancy dresses and extravagant jewelry for example). Try to keep their outfits looking relatively the same. I doubt their entire wardrobe would have made it through 2 shipwrecks anyway
2. Your sim(s) must start out with 0 simoleons and they must live on Founder's Island. Your legacy family and the immediate heirs are not allowed to move off of this island ever. Non-legacy family heirs are allowed to be moved off the island once you have purchased and built up a plot of land on the main island. You are not allowed to send any of the children of your legacy family off to any of the special schools (Generations) either.

3. Play on "normal" lifespan. You are allowed full control over how long each life state is as long as the sims days are anywhere between 80 and 90 days in total. You cannot age up Sims until the game gives you the "It's almost time for (Sims name) Birthday!" prompt.
4. No cheating unless absolutely necessary (Like if you have to reset a sim). There is 1 instance where you can cheat at the very beginning of the challenge to cause some npcs to not show up but other than that, no cheats.
5. Each sim is only allowed up to 3 vacations in their life and can only visit the same place 2 times. This applies to all vacation worlds. Mods that allow more than just the WA worlds are also allowed with the same rule set.
6. If you choose to send a sim to university, you will not be allowed to go on any vacations with that sim and you can only go to university 2 times in their life. Your sim can either go on vacation or to uni but not both. Also, each sim can only get 1 degree from university.
7. You are not allowed to build anything on your island until you have 5,000 simoleons. Once you have that, you can build your sim(s) a small 1-room house with bathroom items (Sink, shower, toilet), table and chairs, sleeping bags, or the cheapest single bed(s)(No double bed yet), and 1 electric light. You can add as many windows and doors as you please. These are the only things allowed to be bought and built on your island at the beginning of the challenge. No kitchen things or electronics (except the single light) are allowed yet. You are allowed to place a fire pit or cheap grill down on your lot. If you have a mod that gives your sim a cooler object or something similar, those are allowed as well. This is how your sims will live until they either go on their first vacation or raise another 10,000 simoleons. If they go on vacation first before building the shack, you can disregard this step as long as you follow the build limitations. (Also all nonelectric lights like tiki torches and similar items are always allowed)
8. Your sims are allowed to make money however they please while on the island. Foraging for items, fishing, painting and all that is fair game.
9. Your sims are not allowed to have any electric or gas-powered vehicles on this island ever! This means no cars, speed boats, electric scooters/bikes/motorcycles, and anything else that falls into those categories. Some types of transportation are allowed (Like a taxi boat if using island living) But those will be specifically listed down below. If you marry a sim abroad and they have one of these items in their inventory, then immediately sell it and delete the gained money from your household funds.
Build Limitations-
1. You are not allowed to use these packs in any circumstance: Into the Future, High-end loft stuff, Lunar Lakes store items, Fast lane stuff (Just the cars and car related items, other items from the pack are fine), Town life stuff, and any other overly high-end technology related items/packs. In my opinion, it takes away from the "Deserted Island" feel.
2. DO NOT TOUCH THE GRAVEYARD AND OTHER PREBUILD STRUCTURES WHEN BUILDING UP THE ISLAND. With the graveyard, you are 100% allowed to add your own sim's graves but you cannot move any preset graves and other items on the lot. The same goes for every other community lots that the island starts off with. You have to build around any objects and structures already placed on the lots. Vegetation (plants, flowers, and trees) however, is allowed to be moved and deleted at your will.
3. You are not allowed to build up any lots on the island at all until your legacy family has purchased the land. In the sims 3, your sims are allowed to own more than one residential lot, so when choosing to build up both the residential and commercial lots, You have to make sure that the money comes out of your legacy family's wallet. If you are playing rotationally after your legacy family has moved out a few of the extra children then these households can make changes to the houses with their own money but the initial building for the lots and decore must come out of the legacy family funds. (You are allowed to just use the family's funds to build a small shell when it comes to residential lots then move other sims onto the lot and use their money to build it up, this does not apply to commercial lots tho)
4. You are allowed to change any preset residential lot type to a commercial lot type if you wish and already premade commercial lot types can be changed too (Not the graveyard, do NOT touch it). The only limitation on this is you cannot change the already existing commercial lots into residential lots, but you can change some of their types itself (i.e. change it from a generic lot type to a beach lot type). The same is allowed for residential lots too.
5. You are not able to use 'electronic' and 'appliance' items when building on the island until your legacy family has unlocked them. Once they have been unlocked, all families can use them however they please without having to unlock the items themselves. Below will be a full list of unlockable items. The way you unlock these items is by traveling abroad or by "paying the bank" a 5,000 simoleon fee per unlock (deleting the money from your family funds). Each sim, when traveling abroad, automatically unlocks 1 appliance item and 1 electronic item upon their return to the island. There are only 3 exceptions to this rule: If you marry someone abroad, they will not count towards this unlock until they themselves travel abroad. If you marry someone abroad and they have any form of electronic in their inventory (that isn't a car or gas/electric power vehicle) then that will count as your unlock for that trip. Example: marrying a man from China who when they move into your family, they have a laptop in their pocket, will count as your initial traveling sim's unlock for electronics on this trip, unlocking laptops and computers for everyone. If you start out with 2 sims at the beginning of the challenge, the first trip each of those sims takes will only count for 1 appliance and 1 electronic unlock. after the first trip, however, you can start to count each unlock regularly ( 2 sims travel abroad together, then upon returning home, you as the player can unlock 2 appliances and 2 electronics).
6. After you have unlocked every appliance item on the list, you can unlock 2 electronic/transportation items at a time. If you see an item on a list that has a '/' after an item, those 2 items are put together as the same unlock. Every item after a ',' is considered its own unlock.
Please note that if a sim has gone off to university, upon their return you are allowed to unlock 3 appliances and 3 electronics instantly.
Appliance Unlock List: Refrigerators, Stoves/Range hoods, Microwaves, Trash compactors, Dishwashers, Washers, Dryers, Coffee/Tea Makers, Food processors, Electric/gas-powered grills, Dumpsters? (like okay but why?), Snowcone makers, popcorn machine, Sauna, Juice/Bars, Ice cream maker, Pizza/Baker's oven, Cotton Candy Maker, Misc (anything else I might have missed as an appliance)
Electronics and Transportation Unlock List: Television, Computers/Laptops/Tablets, Electric lights, Clocks/Phones(Unlocks the ability to use your sim's smartphone), Bicycles, Sailboats, Row Boats, Sprinklers, Electric baby items (The baby swing for example), Alarms, Arcade machines, Videogame consoles, Cameras, Large fishtanks, Radios, Electric instruments (Electric guitar and similar items), Broomsticks for flying on, Bonehilda (she is not an electronic but she is an unlock anyways), Fountains, Vending machines, Electric fireplaces/fire pits, Misc (any other electrical item or non-gas/electric powered transportation I might have missed)
-All items categorized as 'Misc' in the lists above are full unlocks on their own. If not specifically listed above, then it is a misc item and all will be unlocked once you unlock the 'Misc" category.
How to add more people to your Island:
Besides the regular "Going off on an adventure abroad and marring one of the locals" I thought it would be fun to add some other ways to get more sims on your island. Of course, all of this is completely optional but is an option nonetheless. Starting off with the simple "Travel to a new world and marry a sim". Do note that all sims you add in these ways can be fully made by you or downloaded, whichever you prefer.
-Mermaids/Mermen: Have a sim reach fishing level 10 and either acquire a piece of regular kelp (Which can be purchased in different worlds) or exchange the required amount of lifetime happiness points for a piece of mermaid kelp. Once the requirements have been met, delete the kelp from your sim's inventory and move a mersim into your lot for your sim to woo.
-Genie (If you can marry them): Purchase a genie lamp and boom, you can make a genie for the family.
-Witch: After a huge thunderstorm, have your sim purchase a flying broom (Requires you to unlock said broom), place it outside in the open, and wait 3 days. After which you can add a witch to your island.
-Werewolves: Have a thunderstorm occur on the night of a full moon. These thunderstorms act as the same storms that shipwrecked your starting sim(s). You can add the werewolf the next sunny day you have.
-Vampires: Have a sim max out gardening skill and grow some plasma fruits, then have a storm happen on a new moon night. The following night is when you can add a vampire into the mix.
-Fairies: Purchase a fairy house and place it beside a growing garden. Next, search for a special seed on the island and hopefully grow it into a life fruit (You can obtain life fruits in other ways too but you must use the fruit to grow your own plant). Once You have a harvestable life fruit and a fairy house near a garden (Let's say 6 different plants in total at least) then you can add a fairy to your Island.
-Ghosts: Be haunted by any ghost 3 times. You can add your own ghost to the island once that has happened.
-Aliens: Be abducted by aliens!
-Plantsims: Obtain and grow a forbidden fruit plant and harvest it.
-Other ways to get human sims on the island: Have an imaginary friend grow up and turn them into a real sim/ After a large thunderstorm, the following morning you can add another sim to the island as a roughed-up castaway.
And finally for the last part of such a detailed challenge thread (sorry not sorry) here is a 'Quickstart Guide':
1: Create your young adult sim(s) and place them in the world. Again, they can have any relation to each other if you make multiple besides parent and child.
2: IF you use mods like nraas register and similar mods, go ahead and place down a computer on your lot (you can cheat money if you need to) and get all those settings sorted out (Again this is highly recommended for the control of wild animals, tourists, and any other annoying sims)
3: Have a sim contact the newspaper service and cancel the service from your phone, then place all phones on silent and don't touch them until you unlock them again.
4: Delete/sell any items that show up in the world or the sim's inventory from expansion packs (cameras from generations, the welcome to university kit the lama drops off, into the future portal, and the weather totem from supernatural if you wish to delete that too)
5: Once your sim(s) have nothing but their diplomas in their inventory and no other random things are in the world plus all your settings are taken care of, set your family funds to 0 simoleons and you can begin the challenge!
If you have any questions, please leave them below and I will try to answer them! Enjoy the challenge!
