To keep it within the sims community - if it was open registration, you'd get tonnes of people signing up to upload their random crap (read: pirated TV episodes). That'd tank the business model and the site would have to close.

Aha, that makes sense. But in a way, SimsFileShare will still have to rely on the goodwill of the Simmer community, since these codes can be shared with anyone.
Either way, I think it's a great site.
