This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default How do you extract game icons?
Hello, I hope I am posting this in the correct forum. I am interested in finding the files for the icons used in game, such as the icons used in memories, wants and fears, that sort of thing. I am not very familiar with SimPE or digging through the files though. I did find a post on MATY (found here) from 2006 that had catalogued all the game icons, but the download no longer works, as to be expected of a file that's now old enough to vote. Does anyone know how to access the files for the ingame graphics in SimPE? Is there someone else that has compiled the game icons somewhere? Thank you!

There is a working link to the download on the last post in that thread, FYI.

The icons representing objects are part of objects.package where most interesting resources reside. When you open it, you will see a category called jpg/tga/png image. Transparent icons will usually be TGA. The icons are sorted by a group number, which is the result of a mathematical transformation of the objects name. You can translate that value into a technical name using what is called a GUID Index in SimPe. It is a text file that is built once and can then reused.

You can also go into the Object Workshop and extract the whole object, then take the icon from that, but that will take a bit too long unless your PC is from NASA.

Having the GUID index sorted alphabetically is useful. Recent versions of Sim Pe from Chris Hatch come with the index built in, and you can't easily read it.

You can also go into the OBJd category and see the names.

It's pretty easy to find them on your own! I have done it quite many times.

The package that has the most icons and stuff is the UI package.
Go to your game files (Not in documents, in program files) and find "TSData/Res/UI". There you will find the UI.package.
Open the package with SimPE and surf for JPG, LIFO or other image files. There you will find stuff like that.
If you find something you like, simply right-click on the file and select the "Extract..." option if I remember correctly.
Save your file anywhere you want and you've successfully extracted an icon!

Remember to close SimPE before opening your game (Just an irrelevant tip)

The post at MATY doesn't have all the icons of the game, just most of the Wants and Fears icons and a couple of memories. If you want more of them, use the way I said above.
However if you want to save time, I have downloaded the image folder from MATY successfully. The link I think works. If you move on to the post, it seems they've even extracted them again, with a working link, that's where I got them. Overall there are also Pet Stories, Seasons, and Bon Voyage icons extracted.

Just a clarification, since the Export function does different things in the different views:

Right-clicking on the file in the Resource View and choosing "export" extracts the resource itself, so the TXTR/LIFO/etc. (not too useful for other programs than SimPE - more for import/export purposes when making files).

If you want the actual image, you extract it with the "Extract" button above the image in the Plugin View. Then you can select which image format you want (PNG, BMP...).

Thank you all! Thanks for showing me the link to the download, and now I know how to find them myself if I need to also. The images are really small and compressed though! Is this what their resolution really is ingame?

Are you resizing them to make them bigger? If so, yup. EAxis didn't bother making them a bigger resolution, as they would only be used at a smaller resolution.
I just remembered, there's also this icon pack that is vector and at a much better, higher resolution. There aren't all the memory icons and such, but there is a good amount of relationship icons. I should've linked to them in the first place, I'm sorry!
For the rest of the icons, unfortunately you'll have to stick with the low-res ones. I haven't found anyone that has remade them at a higher resolution.

Edit: The high-res icons I mentioned are remade from scratch, so they might be a bit different, but there aren't any big changes, almost identical.
