Last night I had to uninstall the sims 2 and both ep's. crashed regularly, probably because I had deleted NPC's.
Well, the first installation of the base game went fine. After that I wanted to install the very first patch for sims 2, before installing Uni and Nightlife.
So I installed the first sims 2 patch (not the last one for Uni and Nightlife), but after the installing the game wouldn't start up anymore.
I had to try 3 times to reinstall the base game. The last attempt was succesfull.
Then I was able to install Uni and Nightlife without problems. Installing the Uni/Nightlife patch was succesful too.
What worries me is that first patch. For the life of me I can't remember whether that patch was included in Uni or not. Do I still need to install it?
Can someone help me out?

If you put uni on you installed the patch successfuly, the game should have asked that you install cd #4 of the sims2 near the end of uni install. It should have then went through a short procedure showing a red loading bar. That is the first patch. To the best of my knowledge uni will un-install itself if the game is not patched. So if you got all 3 of them intalled I would say you put the patch back on.
