Default downlaods folder doesn't open and that annoying torch (RESOLVED)
hi

i have this weird issue :gonemad: and i am not sure if any of you guys have had this problem too, and cant find any threads to find the ,so here goes:
HERES MY ISSUE
when i go to my documents and then to eagames/thesims2/ downloads to open the folder to put some new files in there from mts2 which i do almost everyday, i try and open the folder and as soon as i do, i see that crazy annoying light torch (swaying side to side) which you sometimes see on your computer when it is searching for files but with my downloads folder it keeps swaying side to side for ages and my d-folder won't open at all, or if it does i wouldn't know anyway, because i got so impatient waiting that i have to close the folder
HERES THE GOOD THING THOUGH
i can still open the folder in different locations, and still drag and drop files into the folder from another folder, (but not into my subfolders, as i cant open the main one).
i have never had this problem before, but i am worried,
the one thing that does open my downloads folder is when i open the WinRAR program and open the downloads folder that way i can access my files, or if i am opening the folder from my browser etc
but not by opening it using my computer folders menu
if someone has any idea what it is i would be grateful or if they know of a thread i can read here on mts2
i will check if my game works or crashes and update this question
thank you for your time

Can you try setting all of your folder views to icons or tiles? It may be that your downloads folder is set to thumbnail view, and Windows is trying to generate previews of all your custom content.

I will choose a path that's clear- I will choose free will
-RUSH- -RADIO- -RADIO- -EON- -ARCHIVES-
Simpeople and Me Archive- 11Dots Archive- My Sims World Archive- Adele Archive- Sims 1 Archive
Please send me a message if you would like a SimsFileShare account, I can send you an invite!

If you have a few thousand files and sub folders in your downloads directory and ask Windows to display thumbnails, it has to check every file to try to create thumbnails whether the file is an image or not. It cannot display a preview but it wouldn't know that in advance- if there is no thumbs.db hidden file it would have to try to generate the thumbs from scratch. Hence the hourglass or rotating torch icon: just indicating that Windows is searching the files.

hi thank you for replying

sorry guys no luck

heres the thing: when i try to change the (view type) etc thumbnail, tiles, details, list etc, i can't change it because i still can't even get my downloads folder so i can get the folder to show me my files, like i mentioned in first post, and i can't remember how exactly i last viewed my files, so i don't know exactly know how to do it,
soon i will leave my folder open let the torch do its thing, and then wait around my house to see if the folder does finally open and hopefully i will get the see my files
what possible reasons is there for this behaviour, my game still loads but takes a little longer than usual to load up, but i don't know if its connected and like i menitoned i manage to get the folder open in other places like
(simpack clean installer)
**sorry admins i am not asking for helping on the modds **
(my internet browser)
by saving and opening files into my browser
(through winrar)
by opening my folders into the window to test for corruptness

if you have any other suggestions i will love you forever
ill be back soon to update with any success i have
xx shelly xx

Just open any folder and set it to tiles or icon view... then click tools>folder options and select the 'view' tab. Then click 'apply to all folders', and all folders will be set to tile/ icon view (whichever you chose).

I will choose a path that's clear- I will choose free will

If you can't get into the folder, right click on it from outside and goto properties. YOu should be able to change it there.
