Default Occasionally Crashes - Windows 11
Hey,
my game run fine and never crashed until I installed Bon Voyage.
Now it crashes occasionally.
It says "Application has crashed, application will now terminate“ I suppose since I saw on the internet that many people have this error message and it matchtes the translation perfectly…

I realised that it only happens if a lot is going on on-screen. Never happened with only one sim on screen or something. Happens a lot with big families or on community lots, so I suppose it must have something to do with that.

I play on Windows 11 with 1920x1080 resolution (changed it in the graphic rules file, because otherwise you can only choose I think 800x600 it was). The game looks great and runs perfectly smooth.
I have an Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop.
All expansion packs (no stuff packs) til FreeTime are installed in order (except University und OFB)
Only mods I play with are "Put your homework away properly!" and the fix for dating on community lot issue.
As I said the game never crashed til Bon Voyage…

I already read some people suggesting to download the graphic rule maker for problems with crashing, so maybe that should be the next step?
Or should I try running the game in compatibility mode?
Anyone ever had a similar problem? What would you suggest?

In the meantime I can try lowering the resolution on bigger families and community lots, so I maybe can provide more information then…

Thanks in advance

Have you applied the 4 GB patch to your Sims2.exe? In essence, it allows the game to use more memory. More EPs, bigger lots and more Sims require more memory to be used by the game, so if you don't have it applied, I would start with it.

1: Check if your mods work with/are updated for BV. If you have FT, they likely are, but doesn't hurt to check.
2: Delete the cache files (accessory.cache/groups.cache), as those can cause crashing - especially if they're carried over from before installing BV.
3: Install the 4GB patch. If you installed it for FT, you likely don't need to install it again since the game should still run with the FT EXE, but doesn't hurt to check the config-log to see if the memory reads properly (should say 4096mb)

I installed the 4GB Patch, but it didn‘t show in my config.log,
so I further investigated and found this.
https://modthesims.info/showthread....5#startcomments
So, I did install the CFF explorer and it said that the 4GB patch is applied, although not showing in config.log.
I tried it out and played the household where my game crashed about every 24-30 in game hours, but this time I could play a few days in a row without crashing So I assume it is working now.
If not, I will report.

Can you tell me where exactly the cache files are, so I can remove them in addiotion?

Thanks for your answers

The cache files appear in the regular The Sims 2 folder (same location as the Downloads folder and all that) whenever you've used your game or Bodyshop.

The files are meant to help the game load faster by preloading some resources, but if you use mods/CC, they can instead sometimes cause the game not to run, or can cause crashes, occasionally other issues.

Accessory.cache and Groups.cache can be deleted.

The Cigen.package (thumbnails for Bodyshop) generally doesn't cause issues, and if you use Bodyshop a lot, especially with CC, it can help with loading. Needs deleting if you install default replacments or do anything else that needs thumbnail updates in Bodyshop.

The Contentregistry file (after making CC in Bodyshop) can be deleted.
