Default Game keeps stopping while playing and closing and messing up
Okay what happens is, I play the game and it's going fine and all the sudden, it freezes and eventually closes and puts my computer in safe mode. I just got this computer today, and I have an Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset. I was wondering what is wrong will it and what will fix it. I fear that I will have to get a new video card and I duno how much they cost or how soon I can get one, but I want to play sooo bad but it's hard when I have to keep starting back at the last save point and restarting the computer and such. The only common thing that has happened, though may be a coincidence, is it happens when the teens are going to private school. They have gone to school I believe 3 times (in theory, once). The only differences are, the first time was their first time. No homework. The other times they had homework. Actually I believe 2 times they have gone to school, no homework, but every time they have homework it messes up. I duno if that really means anything or not.

Hacks? Specks? Your graphics card shouldn't be the problem.

Havn't downloaded anything. I tried to download that update thingy but it didn't work o.o And I've played it again, the kids went to school, no problem. I keep saving a lot though just incase it happens again.

are you running the game with background applications and/or virus scanners? Internet Relay Chat programmes? things like that can crash your game, as can overheating. the sims is resource and power hungry

"power hungry"

It sounded like it crashed when the sims didn't bring homework home after private school. That wouldn't be background tasks.

I have some virus protection thingys on. Don't really know what a background application is.. would that be like AOL? I think I tried playing once without AOL open and it still did it. I'll ask what I can close though without causing problems and hopefully it works.

It crashed when they were going to school, but the most recent time they were at school and the mom was getting ready to get in the bath.

I know I shouldn't double post but I really need to know. I was wondering what I can do to fix my problem? My mom looked at this site and found a guide, but the guide is for problems that happen right away, mine can take an hour, and the way they say to do it, it will end up taking me days and probably not even fix the problem. I was wondering how come, when I try to download the patch thingy (the one they made to fix the problems) it keeps saying error? My game isnt running but it's in, when I try and do it but it always says error (more like 'Installation Error'). I'm going to try getting rid of some useless stuff from the bottom bar thingy and see if it helps my game.

What sound card *audio* came on your computer? Mine kept crashing like that and come to find out the Nvidia sound card I had was the problem. I replaced it with a Soundblaster card and everything has been great since!

On the start menu, click Run and type dxdiag into the box, then click ok. It'll give you your system specks and stats. Audio is under the Sound tab.

It says Realtek HD Audio rear output.

Edit:Would the house they live in make this problem? They live in the biggest house on Pleasant somethingorother.

no i know that isn't a background task. i wasn't suggesting it was.
what i was trying to do was establish what else may be going on in the system which may have contributed
however, as my help is being ridiculed i offer no more assistance

Houses with lots of objects can make the game slow and could possibly overwhelm the video card/drivers, leading to a crash.

anelca, I tried closing background stuff but it didn't work. I think I may have figured out the problem. My sims moved, didn't help. But I had read somethin about switching to window mode, so I did. Usually it takes less than 1 sim day for it to close, and so far it's been almost 4 days and it hasnt, so I think this is working. It makes it a little harder to control but I know I'll get used to it really soon. I did the learning mode and figured out some buttons so move.. the.. screen. I'll post again if it closes again.

Edit:The kids are almost adults now, and it still hasn't closed! I really think this fixed the problem *is so happy* The Sims 2 is fun! (Side note, the male son, who's made after my brother, has got a girlfriend. The character made after me is in love. I feel bad for the one named after my mom, no boyfriend or anything and she wants one and soon her daughter will be leaving.)
