There have been a handful of similiar recolors of the bald "haircut" out there. I know of at least one on this site. Most are rather good, and I've downloaded many of them. But I wanted to try an experiment and create a shaved head using a picture of a real person. (For the sake of clarity, by "shaved" I mean: as short your hair can get without being bald.)

So to that end, I found an appropriate picture. I then cropped that picture, and using Paint Shop Pro, I began slowly erasing the skintone using the Background Eraser. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to erase ALL the skintone, which added a problem (see below). I selected a 48x48 block of the remaining photo and cropped it to just that block. I used this as a pattern (which included a the transparency left by the BG Eraser), full colored for the main texture and grayscaled for the alpha texture. I then created a new layer (set to Darken) on the alpha texture and painted a semitranparent black on this layer to make the edges less "edgy".

IMPORTANT
This hairstyle will not work with all skintones. The subject of the photo I used was Caucausian, so the darkest Maxis skintone makes it look odd (see the screenies), because I was unable to erase ALL traces of skin color. There is also a problem with some custom skintones. I'm going to try to fix this. I'm not promising anything because I'm not an artist (but I am a thinker--sorry, G. B.).
