Henry VIII’s Hampton Court by Tatiana

This is a 6x5 lot valued at $575,190 and comes fully furnished with Maxis content only.
This specific package has not been played/tested but I am having a great time playing an identical lot.

Henry VIII acquired Hampton Court Palace from his chief minister Cardinal Wolsey in 1525. It seems that the Wolsey’s original design was based on the works of Italian Renaissance architects such as Leonardo da Vinci and was meant to be the ultimate residence for a prince of the church. Henry, full of grandeur himself, tore down portions of the Wolsey’s palace & rebuilt in a more gothic-medieval style. To this day, Hampton Court Palace remains a huge & wonderful hodge-podge of styles. This Sim version reflects only a small portion of the current structure with detailing authentic to the Tudor period.

The main entrance is over the moat & through Wolsey’s Great Gate House. On the right hand side of the courtyard is the Great Hall with Henry VIII’s family mural. This building is used for dining & dancing on a grand scale. On the left hand side of the courtyard is the Portrait Gallery where you can find a picture & badge for each of Henry’s six wives. This gallery is also used for reading, chess & billiards. The dining room mural is the Meyer Madonna by Hans Holbein the younger.

The second floor is divided into two wings, the King’s Apartments & the Queen’s Apartments. Each wing has its own sitting area, bedroom, master bath & private chapel. The stained glass & badges in the Queen’s apartments are those of Catherine of Aragon. Being Henry’s first & longest serving wife, I felt that she deserved this honour. The stained glass in the King’s chapel is Henry himself at the time of his coronation. The wallpaper used in the hallway is an authentic Tudor paper. The second floor also contains a study, two bedrooms with ensuite baths & a full nursery.

Directly across the courtyard is Anne Boleyn’s Gate with the famous Astronomical Clock. This clock shows the sun revolving around the earth as it was installed in 1540 when the earth was thought to be the centre of the universe. Situated on the Thames River, a royal barge stands ready to take you back to London. There is also a small portion of the river in which to swim. A Tudor Knot Garden can be found on the opposite side of the palace.
