It has long annoyed me that none of the original ten Maxis careers can be held by a vampire without that vampire inevitably becoming a largish pile of ashes. Absolutely none of them have all-nighttime hours and I found it to be impossible to send my vampire Sim to work in the daytime by the actual game rules. After that I found a hack to make my vampires motives decay like a normal Sim's if they were indoors during the day. However, I realize that not everyone likes to change the rules like that. So I present the original ten Maxis base game careers revamped (sorry, had to do it) into versions that a vampire can live with.
The careers are Athletics, Business, Criminal, Culinary, Law Enforcement, Medicine, Military, Politics, Science, and Slacker. (For University careers, click here .) They are all almost exactly the same as the original version. All I changed were the hours (carpools don't arrive earlier than 7 p.m., and nobody stays at work later than 6 a.m.) and obvious references to daytime hours (daylight, lunch, etc.). I read through all the level descriptions and chance cards, hopefully I didn't miss anything.
Of course, a certain amount of unrealism exists in these careers. An athlete couldn't get by playing only night games, but a certain amount of unrealism already exists in the careers anyway (we all know that a nurse doesn't get promoted to doctor, right?). As long as you can buy the idea that some bank somewhere could be open during nighttime hours or that the occasional Chief of Staff at a hospital might work only after 7 p.m., you shouldn't have a problem with these.
My intent here was to preserve the original Maxis career as much as possible, so I did not do any wholesale rewriting of chance cards or level descriptions. I only changed a word here and there. So references to golf became midnight golf (which I guess is semi-believable if they lit the course), I didn't change it to some other game because that would require quite a bit of rewriting and more of the original would be lost.
All of these exist independently of the original career. They do not overwrite anything. If you were to put all of them in your game you would have two copies of each career, one vampire friendly, the other original. I suggest only putting the ones in that you would like your vampire(s) to be in as the more careers you have, the harder it will be to land any one particular job. To avoid confusion, the vampire versions are all labelled as such:
All of the rewards and icons are the same as the original because I wanted it to be just like the vampire being in the original career with just the hours changed.
I should add that these do not require Nightlife, a nightowl sim could advance through one of these careers just as easily even if no vampires exist in the game. Also, all careers are EP ready.
Okay, I hope all you people out there with vampires enjoy these and have fun.
