Default How do I retexture (or default) the previously non-recolourable Phlox?
The pastel Maxis texture for the Phantastic Phlox bush doesn't please me. Now that the phlox bush has been made recolourable, how do I get my preferred texture back onto it?

I've been using a default phlox texture by Vendigroth, thumbnail attached. I downloaded Corvidophile/CreeSims repositoried add-ons to the phlox bush, but didn't use them because for some reason they were pulling the pastel Maxis texture instead of my default. Now TeaAddict has made a default for the phlox that makes it recolourable - the file goes in Bins - and new versions of add-on bushes that work with the new phlox. Of course this overrides the Vendigroth phlox texture default, so I have lots of phlox bush sizes but don't like the way they look!

I extracted the texture from Vendigroth's phlox and tried to make it into a recolour, but it didn't show up in game, though TeaAddict's recolours do show up. I don't have any SimPE skills apart from making very basic new recolours or replacing the texture in someone else's default file. I think the fact that the phlox wasn't originally recolourable might be complicating the procedure. I don't know anything about overrides that go in Bins. Can anyone explain what I should do to get my preferred texture onto the bushes? I don't mind if it's a new recolour that I have to apply to every bush, but a replacement texture would be more convenient.

So TeaAddict didn't make the phlox recolorable, she just made a default. And she did it via an OBJD/GUID override, so the internal names are now unique from the Maxis phlox. This is basically a brand new object that is just using the Maxis phlox GUID to replace it. This is why she said to put it in bins, so you don't accidentally try to delete it.

No previous defaults, recolors or add on meshes will take any recolors she made for it. She did share some other sizes of meshes by tvickie that work with it that probably will suffice as a replacement for Corvi's. This is why your default does not work. My suggestion would be to use that texture and replace the texture in Tea's default package.

To recolor this, you want to clone one of her recolors. Set cloning options to default (little orange text to right), accept whatever comes up in the scenegraph box, and save. This is how recoloring seasonal plants is done, because SimPE doesn't pull all the states.

FYI, those ones by Corvi are not actual plants, do not have seasonal states and pets chew them.

Thank you for the explanation! I was able to get exactly what I was aiming for: using Vendigroth's texture to replace the texture in Tea's phlox default, and cloning one of the new recolours to make a phlox with Vendigroth's leaves and orange flowers.
