A change of staircase would make all the difference in the world, although I appreciate it when someone making a lot avoids CC. The first thing I generally do when I get a new house is to rip out the staircase and find one that improves the floorplan, and in this case, that is ALL that you'd need to do to fix the "cramped" aspect. I love the concept and the way you executed it.
