Multipart/Multi-Zip Files Not working?

Date Posted: 4th Sep 2010 at 5:06 AM

First you'll need an unzipping program like 7zip or WinRAR. The problem most people have with these multipart files (such as towns/neighborhoods) is that the files are automatically renamed when uploaded to MTS, thus making extracting/unzipping them difficult.

1) Make sure all of the .rar files are placed into the same folder together.
2) Rename each file to match them all, since MTS gives each file a unique number when uploaded. Don't change the part1, part2, etc. portions, just change the filename before the part# so they all match.

For example, the first file could be called
MTS_XaraZane_100001_My_World.part1.rar

The second file is called
MTS_XaraZane_100002_My_World.part2.rar

The third file is called
MTS_XaraZane_100003_My_World.part3.rar

Notice the difference in their names (shown in bold above)? Make sure to rename parts 2 and up with the same filename as the first!

Once you've renamed them, they should now have matching filenames like so:
MTS_XaraZane_100001_My_World.part1.rar
MTS_XaraZane_100001_My_World.part2.rar
MTS_XaraZane_100001_My_World.part3.rar
...etc...

3) You should now be able to extract the files. Some of the extracting programs out there will have you extract part1 and then it will ask you where part2, part3, etc is. Other programs (like 7zip) will allow you to select all of the files and extract them all at once into a single Sims3Pack. You'll have to see which way your software leads you and go from there...

4) If you've successfully unzipped the Sims3Pack file and then tried to install it to your game by double-clicking it -- and it still doesn't install or show up in the game launcher window, try moving the Sims3Pack file into your Documents > Electronic Arts > Sims 3 > Downloads folder first.

For Windows Vista users with EPs installed, I think the downloads folder is found in your user folder like so:

C:\Users\...\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads

I'm not positive, but I think for Vista users with the base game only (no EPs), the Downloads folder is found in the c:\Program Files folder or wherever you installed your game. (Sorry, I don't have Windows XP -- so I couldn't tell you where to find the Downloads folder if you use XP.)

5) Once you've moved the Sims3Pack to the Downloads folder, start the game so that the launcher will run. You should then see the file in the launcher's Downloads list. Place a checkmark beside it and click the Install button at the bottom of the launcher window to add the file to your game.

That should do it! Hope this helps...
