Radiance Mod and Store Edition / Collection Packs

Date Posted: 24th Apr 2011 at 8:37 AM

When I first installed Gunmod's Radiance Light Mod, I found out that my lighting didn't work at all after I installed it. Looking at what file the Mod installer changed, I discovered that it didn't change ALL of them. Store Edition* (EP99) was installed and the Sims 2 executable. The Mod installer does not account for the Store Edition and the Collection Packs, which I later ran into the same problem with.

If you are interested and have either Store Edition, one or more Collection Packs, or both, please read on, as I will explain how to apply the mod to these packs:

Now then, the following assumes you are using a Windows 32-bit operating system:

First, install the mod if you haven't already. Now then, I must ask if you have another expansion or stuff pack. If so, the process is a bit easier; continue to Instructions A. For those who don't own other expansion packs, your process will be a little different; see Instructions B.

A. For users with other Expansion/Stuff Packs:
  1. Go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\. Here all your Sims Games will be listed assuming you did not change the install directory during installation.
  2. Open the folder of a name of any of your expansion/stuff packs (NOT THE BASE, STORE, OR COLLECTION PACKS).
  3. From there, open the folder path TSData\Res\Lights, such that your address bar should read
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\<expansion/stuff pack>\TSData\Res\Lights
  4. You will see three files:
    Code:
    downtown_lot
    *Lights.nol
    Lighting

Copy all these files to your desktop.
  • Now, for Store Edition: go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Store Edition\TSData\Res\Lights and rename all the files in there (such as append ORIGINAL to its name or add a # at the beginning). After this, copy and paste the files from your desktop into the folder. Rename the EP#Lights.nlo or SP#Lights.nlo to EP99Lights.nlo
  • Now, for each Collection Pack: go to its program folder in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\. Here there will be folders named EP# and/or SP# depending on which were installed. For each of these open them and go to \TSData\Res\Lights. There rename the files in there and copy and paste the files from your Desktop. Rename the .nlo file to that of the parent directory name (for example, for the Best of Business collection, you would rename, say EP1Lights.nlo to SP5.nlo when editing in the SP5 folder). I really hope this makes sense.

  • B. For users WITHOUT other Expansion/Stuff Packs:
    1. Go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\. Here all your Sims Games will be listed assuming you did not change the install directory during installation.
    2. If you have Store Edition installed, go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Store Edition\TSData\Res\Lights. There, rename the files in there as to back them up. Now open up notepad, type # into it and save it as
      Code:
      downtown_lot
      and
      Code:
      Lighting
in the same folder. Now then, save it again, this time change the "Save as Type" to "All Files" and name the file
      Code:
      EP99Lights.nlo
      to the same directory.
    3. For any collection packs, go the C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\. Open the folder of the collection pack where you will see folders labeled SP# and/or one called EP#, depending on what you installed. For each of these folders, enter into them and then open the following path: \TSData\Res\Lights. For each SP/EP, there will be 3 files. Rename each of them. Now open up notepad, type # into it and save it as
      Code:
      downtown_lot
      and
      Code:
      Lighting
in the same folder. Now then, save it again, this time change the "Save as Type" to "All Files" and name the file
      Code:
      <SP/EP><#>Lights.nlo
to the same directory. For say in SP5/.../Lights, name the file SP5Lights.nlo. Again, do this for each SP/EP and for each Collection Pack.

I hope this made sense and that it works.

*I use it so as to play without a disc and to add features to my game I didn't originally have.
