Its been about a week to just over a week (depending on where you live) since Showtime (the 6th expansion pack for The Sims 3) released, and already in that time, there have been a number of mods released that are either brand new or updated versions of existing mods. In this time, I have come to realize just how small the window of opportunity for releasing _XML tuning mods in particular really is; wait one day and it may be too late (as I have found out on two occasions in this past week). Just over a week has passed and _XML tuning mods have almost already reached saturation point for The Sims 3 once again. Time really is a beginner modders worst enemy. Having said that, I don't think i've fared too badly thus far for Showtime, with the four or so mods i've managed to be first to market to specifically for Showtime, and i'm hopeful that the possibilities for these kinds of mods haven't dried up completely just yet so soon after Showtimes release.
It's the limited opportunities for further _XML tuning mods that has me contemplating again attempting to successfully create a mod of a higher difficulty (i.e. a script/object mod) where time isn't such an obstacle like it is for _XML tuning mods given the more advanced nature of these kinds of projects. Earlier this year, I got agonizingly close to having a completed script mod that works 100% without any glitches/issues for dealing with Portfolios being stuck in a Sims inventory when joining the Stylist or Interior Designer professions from Showtime, and in fact, the core part of the mod actually worked in game (i.e. the portfolio could be sold in Inventory AND the photos inside it could also be sold), but the mod ultimately had to be scrapped due to a strange issue with the Portfolios not re-generating again if you re-joined one of those professions AFTER the profession was quit and the portfolio was sold the first time round. If there is one thing I want to achieve before finishing up here and discontinue modding (whenever that may be), it's unlocking the Warp Core Engineer achievement, just something to say I could do more than just _XML tuning mods. Well, as they say, it's back to the drawing board!
