Reduced Current Availability and Future Availability

Date Posted: 7th Oct 2012 at 3:20 PM

In the last couple of days, unexpected and unavoidable life commitments have surfaced that will reduce my availability to deal with any mod related issues for the next month or so (although I will do my best to come on here and diagnose any notable issues). This is going to ultimately require that I scrap a mod that I was working on for Supernatural (EP7) specifically.

However, the good news is that these commitments will be completely cleared in time for the release of the Seasons expansion pack (EP8) in mid November 2012, so my availability will return to normal around that time and i'll still be able to update the Faster Skills mod for example (that will definitely require an update to work with the new objects introduced into that expansion) without issue among other mods that might need an update following installation of the latest Base Game patch.

Starry Eyed Surprise

Date Posted: 19th Sep 2012 at 1:01 PM

The other day, I was doing my usual rounds checking the site for the day when I saw a thread of mine in the recent Recent "Top" threads section on the homepage. When I saw this, I was like "what the... this threads nearly a year old... how is this possible?". It was only when I clicked on my profile that I found out that somehow, my Faster Inventing/Sculpting mod had become a Picked Upload.

This was completely unexpected and genuinely took me by surprise seeing that I thought it was almost impossible for an upload to get a star pick outside of an advanced scripting mod or a custom object with a new mesh. I still want to unlock the Warp Core Engineer achievement one day, i've just gotta think of something that can be fixed (when I have more time) with a relatively simple script of some sort.

Lack of Activity

Apologies to those i've not responded to via PM or comments in mod threads, just been really busy these last couple of weeks with life stuff. Shall be back to regular site visiting some time around the middle of June (within a week after the Sweet Treats stuff pack releases in time to update any mods following change of patch if necessary).

The Challenges of Being A Beginner Modder

Date Posted: 15th Mar 2012 at 1:27 AM

Its been about a week to just over a week (depending on where you live) since Showtime (the 6th expansion pack for The Sims 3) released, and already in that time, there have been a number of mods released that are either brand new or updated versions of existing mods. In this time, I have come to realize just how small the window of opportunity for releasing _XML tuning mods in particular really is; wait one day and it may be too late (as I have found out on two occasions in this past week). Just over a week has passed and _XML tuning mods have almost already reached saturation point for The Sims 3 once again. Time really is a beginner modders worst enemy. Having said that, I don't think i've fared too badly thus far for Showtime, with the four or so mods i've managed to be first to market to specifically for Showtime, and i'm hopeful that the possibilities for these kinds of mods haven't dried up completely just yet so soon after Showtimes release.

It's the limited opportunities for further _XML tuning mods that has me contemplating again attempting to successfully create a mod of a higher difficulty (i.e. a script/object mod) where time isn't such an obstacle like it is for _XML tuning mods given the more advanced nature of these kinds of projects. Earlier this year, I got agonizingly close to having a completed script mod that works 100% without any glitches/issues for dealing with Portfolios being stuck in a Sims inventory when joining the Stylist or Interior Designer professions from Showtime, and in fact, the core part of the mod actually worked in game (i.e. the portfolio could be sold in Inventory AND the photos inside it could also be sold), but the mod ultimately had to be scrapped due to a strange issue with the Portfolios not re-generating again if you re-joined one of those professions AFTER the profession was quit and the portfolio was sold the first time round. If there is one thing I want to achieve before finishing up here and discontinue modding (whenever that may be), it's unlocking the Warp Core Engineer achievement, just something to say I could do more than just _XML tuning mods. Well, as they say, it's back to the drawing board!
