Just a few quick musings .....

Date Posted: 11th Mar 2008 at 10:23 PM

Oh I'm getting clever! I've looked around at different friends pages on this site and noticed that everybody has a type of banner on their creators page. I thought to myself, "I want one of those! Or at least a picture or something!" So again, I got thinking about how it would be done and decided on putting up a picture of me as a sim, or as close as I could get to me as a sim. I spent oodles of time creating "me", trying to get it right, and it really does look like me, and then had the brainwave of how to get it onto my creators page. AND IT WORKED!!! I'm getting to smart for my own good I think. And to think, I didn't have to ask Jason, Vera, or Whiterider. *pats self on back* If you guys want to, could I have the actual dimensions of an acceptable banner? I scaled down my in-game picture of "me" and am using that but I think a nice banner with different poses of "me" in it would be cool. Afterall, I have that modelling hack now and I've always wanted to me a male model.

Another thing I did was try and create a realistic vacation home. Without giving too much away I think I did fairly well and I really hope it gets accepted. What would be really nice (and would make my day as I'm in a lot of pain today and kind of down) was if it was labelled as a "picked upload". I can hope.

Well I think I'm going to get out of here and go watch some Harry Potter. That seems to cheer me up while my pain meds start to kick in. I'm not in a bad mood today but just a little down. Take care everybody and have a good one.

My first University major!

Date Posted: 2nd Mar 2008 at 2:24 AM

Well I did it! I bugged whiterider a few times with some questions and followed her tutorial and I ended up making a major. It worked for me in my game so I decided to share it with everybody. I'm so excited. I can't wait to see if it gets approved or not. If it doesn't, then I won't get discouraged, I'll just try and figure out how to tweak it up a bit. All I'm going to say is that it is cloned from the physics major. I really hope everybody likes it because I put a lot of work and thought into it. Oh, I really wish the moderator would hurry up and look at it. *rubbing hands together with glee*

A sim rejection which has led to a conclusion.....

Date Posted: 20th Feb 2008 at 6:19 AM

For those of you who know me, you'll understand what I'm saying. For those of you who don't know me yet, you'll understand that this really isn't a rant or a complaint. I've come to a decision about my work on this site. I really try hard to make unique sims. I spend quite a bit of time clicking on those options to make, in my own opinion, a unique face sculpt. I then go about choosing the skintone, makeup, hair, and clothing and usually end up changing things around quite a bit until I come up with a character that I like. My most recent project was a sim of Bill Weasley who we are first introduced to in Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire. I created him out of a picture of him in my mind. I thought I'd done a pretty good job on him based on the description of him in the book.

I spent quite a bit of time last night posing Bill in-game with this really cool modelling hack and had oodles of fun. Some of my pictures that I took were rather risque in my opinion, but hey, I had fun. This morning I proceeded to post him and went about my day. Right before I left for work I decided to check and see if he'd been accepted and unfortunately he got rejected, mainly for a bland face sculpt.

I'm disappointed because I thought he looked pretty good considering I pictured him from a book, but I'm not angry about it. I've been thinking all night at work about what is mentioned during the sim submission process about rejections and I've come to a conclusion. I totally agree with this site about sim rejections in the "other" category. I'm sure if I really looked hard enough I'd find sims already here that look similar to Bill. I also agree with the suggestion on trying something new. I think it's about time that I get off my butt, be brave and dive right in and give some other things a try. I enjoyed making my CAS screens and I received positive feedback about them. In fact, I get positive feedback on my sims so obviously my ideas aren't hideous. So with that thought in mind I'd like to thank the moderator(s) who is/are in charge of sim submissions because you've given me something to think about. Like I said earlier, I'm not angry but I've gotten a renewed spirit when it comes to creation and I think I'm going to start with object recoloring. Nothing really fancy at first, but object recoloring nonetheless. In your own way you've given me the nudge that I needed to branch out and try something new. Thanks for the shove. I'm leaving the nest now.

My entry got accepted ... ON THE FIRST TRY! :)

Date Posted: 25th Nov 2007 at 10:53 AM

Oh, I'm doing the dance of joy over here at 5:50 a.m. because I couldn't sleep, Polar woke me up, and my shoulder is really aching so I decided to just get up and make some coffee and check to see if my entry got approved. Imagine my surprise when I saw that it had indeed been approved. I'm so proud of myself that I didn't get a rejection. Heading on over to the Fairytale section revealed a lot of fantastic submissions. I've already picked out my favourite, and believe me, it looks great. Well, I'm off to go and check out some more things, go grab another cup of coffee, and see what that noise is that means my lovely little Polar kitty is up to something yet again. Man, he's so bad.

My Fairytale entry is finally finished! :)

Date Posted: 22nd Nov 2007 at 7:23 AM

Hey, just a quick note to let everyone know that I FINALLY got my entry finished and submitted for the Fairytale competition. I sure hope it doesn't get rejected because I doubt I'll have enough time to fix anything. Weird thing though is that when I was trying to submit it, the upload wizard asked me whether it was a recolor, new mesh, etc. It was a lot so I didn't know what to select so I think I just chose object recolor and then just continued with the submission process. I really hope that didn't affect my submission in any way. Well, that's it. Gotta send a pic of it to Vera and then go sniff around and see what my cat Polar is getting into. Grr. He's busy.

Brace yourselves! I'm kind of venting. :)

Wow, I can't believe how much work this has been and the troubles I've been having in doing it. Ron has decided that he's going to enter the Fairytales competition and I'm actually building a home. I've only shown part of it to Vera and she loves it. I will say however that since I'm not really a person to actually build, I'm having quite the time. I had a slight problem with my game recently and the neighbourhood I was building this home in went kind of wonky and I ended up losing it. I wasn't impressed and turned the air a little blue. All is not lost however because it was fixed and I had to start over again.

People who know me realize that I like to make my own discoveries. Imagine my surprise when I found terrain paint and all of the wonderful things that you can do with it. I know, I know, you guys have all discovered this long ago but for me it was such a big deal. I ran to my wife and said "Dee, LOOK! I can paint the dirt!" Her response was a raised eyebrow followed by a "That's nice, Ron." I also discovered a wonderful tutorial by a Christine on how to make spires and a tutorial by tkdjunkie on how to make a swimmable lake. Way cool. This game really IS fun.

I would also like to mention that, and I think this should be mentioned more often, that if it weren't for all of you wonderful object creators out there who design objects for people like me to use in our homes, well, this game just wouldn't be the same. I want to thank each and every one of you because the time you take from your personal lives in order to, and correct me if I'm wrong, to create a mesh from scratch, add a texture of some sort, and then turn it into a useable object, and then to just give it away, it's really very nice of you. As I find objects for my game that I truly love and as I get better at designing my own homes, I'll be sure to ask permission if I'm not sure in order to be able to use custom objects in them.

Sometimes I go over to the Exchange and look around at sims and homes that people have created and submitted there. Something is happening at the Exchange and it really bothers me. People who create custom items like furniture, skintones, makeup, jewellery, etc quite often state that they would like their items to not be uploaded or included with sims or homes because their hard work is for our own personal use. I can't blame creators for that. I know a few people who have that policy, very nice people I might add. My question then is WHY? Why would people go against someone elses wishes? I took a chance once and I downloaded a sim and installed him in my game. Imagine my surprise when something showed up that was a donation item from another site, something that shouldn't have been included with the sim and then uploaded in the first place. Not knowing this at the time because I'm still learning myself, I created a sim and included this really nice bling around his neck. The moderator on here, and I'd like to thank them, pointed out to me that it was a donation item from another site and couldn't be included. Talk about being embarrassed. I found out where the item originally came from, emailed her and told her that it was ill-gotten, where I'd gotten it from, and I was deleting it from my game because I hadn't paid for it. She thanked me and even told me that since I took the time to let her know, and I was so upset and embarrassed about it, I could keep it. My whole point of this is that if people ask that this not be done, then please don't. It's a simple request. What you're doing is just plain wrong. It's stealing and it's pissing people off. Having the "Oh, they'll never know it came from me." attitude just means you're being a dork. People like me who end up with ill-gotten items WILL let the original artist know where we got it and who submitted it.

Wow, I've wrote more than I intended. I guess that's what happens when your cats get you up too early and you've had a pot of coffee by yourself. Hopefully I'll be able to get this lot finished for this competition. Thanks Vera for your words of encouragement regarding it. I hope you like it when I get it all finished. Hugs to everyone out there!

My Uploads.

Date Posted: 15th Jul 2007 at 3:10 AM

Hi. I would first of all like to thank NarcissaAMalfoy for bringing to my attention that my sim downloads have a problem. It seems that in my quest for knowledge in creating and uploading and still learning what a mesh file is and what is acceptable to be included in a download, my over cautiousness caused me to not include THE SIM in the package. Argh! Narcissa told me that all she got was a package of custom content. No sim at all.

I am so sorry to everybody who has left such wonderful comments about my sims and all you got was a package of custom content. Luckily for me I still have all of my sims that were published here still sitting in my BodyShop so I've re-packaged them, saved them to my desktop, and I'm going to edit my posts to include the proper .rar file WITH THE SIM! I am really embarrassed by this. Sorry folks.
