Starting fresh

Date Posted: 15th Oct 2007 at 9:57 PM

Okay, my little snit is over. I've ditched my previous plans and am working on some medieval stuff. I haven't really created anything in that style yet. I've been waiting to do a medieval wallpaper set. I thought I would do that and tack on some decorative and build items. I guess I just want to add some supplementary materials for medieval houses. It won't be an object set OR a build set or anything else. I hope it will still look cohesive and theme-y, though. I haven't decided whether to post them separately or as a set.

*Bangs head on keyboard* Uuuggghh!!!

This has been a massively frustrating couple of days.

I've been working on a "Mod" (with 60's Campbell's and Mondrian Dresses, etc.) clothing store recolor. But everything seems to bleed through -- I just can't seem to get it right. I'm really frustrated by that.

On the side, I've been working on recolors for my first lot upload. It was just one disappointment after another. I could not find a floor plan for the place I was looking at, so I spent forever trying to piece it all together with photos of the interior at different angles and building blueprints of it on vacant lots: it's still not going to be totally accurate because no lot seems to be long enough. Also, I could not find meshes for some items that are *critical* for the lot. I'm waayyy too green (not in terms of time spent creating but in terms of skill, certainly) to be meshing. So, I started doing what I could (ie recoloring Maxis objects): but some principle items were not showing up in the SimPE Plugin view. I really want to do this lot and now it's looking impossible. So far, I've done 16 walls for it, 14 of which I threw out because they weren't as sharp as I wanted them to be. I really wanna tear my hair out right about now.

It's too bad there is no angry emoticon. That belongs up there also.

Signing off,

School starts tommorow.... (I know, FRIDAY!)

Date Posted: 28th Sep 2007 at 8:50 AM

So progress on projects might be slower than normal. I'm still finishing the pink, mod and denim shop sets. Then I think I'll do some different downtown sets -- they are sorely needed and I need to take a break from the wallpapering. I'll have an update this weekend concerning a large project I'm thinking of doing.

Also, I realize that there was a problem with color bleeding in the Black and White men's rack. I've submitted a small Black and White Part 2 which has a fixed version of the rack. Thank you for your patience, I don't know how I missed this. ~ Blueberry

Upcoming Clothing Store Recolors....

Date Posted: 25th Sep 2007 at 9:30 AM

I'm done with my punk clothing set and am fairly happy with it (though not completely -- I had some difficulty with the sharpness.) I'm planning on doing four more clothing store recolors before moving on to other things.

1. 70's Vintage Clothing

2. 60's Mod and Sunny Clothing

3. Very Pink Clothing

4. Denim and Linen Clothing

Authentic DIY-style shop

Date Posted: 24th Sep 2007 at 11:49 AM

I'm still recoloring the clothing racks. I know it seems redundant but there are very few recolors out there and it's nice to have a variety. Now I'm working on a DIY set, but it's coming off more Hot Topic than authentic. Maybe it's the sharp (not careworn) colors I've been using. I'm afraid to make anything look too distressed because it often just translates into blurry when I do it. I'll keep working on it because my punk Sims sorely need a place to shop. Here's a preview. This may or may not make the final cut.

First update in a while

Date Posted: 22nd Sep 2007 at 4:45 PM

I'm playing with SimPE and am having a ball. I may expand what I upload, but I want to continue making my walls -- which are pretty much my bread and butter.

1. I've still been thinking of making a Roman build set based on classical walls. But since I would be recoloring (fireplaces, columns, doors, etc) instead of creating new meshes (I'm not even proficient at recoloring) I hesitate. There were so many wonderful submissions of the classical variety (including build sets) due to the Creator Challenge and it would be very difficult to contribute something unique and it would be impossible (with my skill level) to even come close in quality to many Roman items and sets available through this site. I'm deeply conflicted about the whole thing. It always takes a great deal of time for me to create molding that I am happy with, so I want to be completely sure that it's worth the headache. I may decide to do it just because I want to.

2. I've been trying to recolor the art nouveau wood-backed chair, loveseat and sofa from the base game. Unfortunately, it always ends up incredibly fuzzy. I tried to sharpen the patterns to the point of insanity -- spending several hours in all --, but nothing seemed to work. You can't win 'em all I guess.

3. I have my first long-term project goal. I want to learn to replace all defaults with Victorian-themed items/appearances/NPCs. Baby's bottles, pay phones, roads, gardeners, school buses, etc. I want to alter it all using items, clothing and meshes from other sites. Also, I want to create careers with Victorian uniforms and vehicles. Then I want to upload it to this site as a set. Good idea?

Playing with the Recolor Option: Enlightenment Recolors?

Date Posted: 13th Sep 2007 at 3:11 AM

Should I do a set of Rococo objects? I'm working on translating some colors and textures from my Enlightenment set onto objects right now. I might make a collection, but I'm not sure. ~ Blueberry

I'm not going on the trip after all. It's been rescheduled for a more convenient time. I'm not sure I'll be creating a lot this week still, but we'll see.
