A Series of Unfortunate Events
Date Posted: 17th Oct 2015 at 11:57 PM
Over the past year, it has occurred to me that I'm getting old(er). We all are, I know. My mom's birthday is today. She turned 86. To put that into perspective, she's older than the ball point pen, and spent the first 20 years of her life growing up in the Great Depression, followed immediately by WW2.....and here I always wondered why she saves everything to no end. I may just make a Hoarder's Home, in her honor.
In regard to Sims 3 and 4. Nope. Not getting them. For me, it's Sim 2 only. Heck, I don't even have all of the expansion packs yet, and I'm still working on an external hard drive that will hold all of my Sims 2 stuff, lest my poor laptop decides to up and protest on me for cruel and unusual download punishment. Yes, I know that Sims 3 and 4 are great, and at some point, perhaps, I'll obtain them. For now though, I'm thoroughly enjoying Sims 2, and getting back into the creative swing of things.
A series of unfortunate (and purely unintentional) events has led me to this point, once again. Family first, and all that.....and that included myself, through a series of illnesses and a major job change. We've also added several new pets to our family, which I will be making for use in the game. Thomas (a silver tabby) and Willow (a tortoise shell) are already available to use in game. Next up - Oliver (orange tabby), Molly (calico tabby), Kiki (short hair Burmese), Ava (long hair Burmese) and Lucy (Siberian Husky).
We live smack in the middle of the Tahoe National Forest, and this year was one hell of a doozy for wild fires. We were literally surrounded by them! Fortunately for us, the closest one ever came to use was about 10 miles due south, but we suffered greatly from the soot and smoke that flew our way, and were ever aware of the potential of flying random embers. Today, it's finally raining though, so it's yet another reason to celebrate! Have a great week everyone!

Thank You MTS2!!!!
Date Posted: 13th Feb 2010 at 6:26 PM
After a year, a move and a new computer system, I finally had time to re-install my Sims2. However, since it's been so long, and with the release of Sims 3 (which I do not have and quite frankly, looking at the way the CAS is, I'm honestly not so sure I want to get Sims3), I was crossing fingers, toes, eyes, arms and legs that MTS2 would still hold all of its contents. And... to my great relief it did! YUS! Thank you so much MTS2 for keeping the Sims2 portion not only with its full contents, but keeping updates coming in. You have no idea how much I truly appreciate not only this site, but all of the wonderful creators and contributors that have helped to make Sims2, and MTS2, the best all around! :D

Current Projects

Back when I was growing up, the 'trendy fad' in home decorating was to have rooms that had matching....EVERYTHING. When I say 'everything', I mean that if it wasn't nailed down, bolted shut or an electrical appliance...it 'had to' match. This was especially predominant back in the Northeastern states (which I later found out was also the trend in southern California as well - but at a much earlier date). Sometimes it looked tacky, other times not...still there were also times when you walked in a room and just got completely confused as to what the designer had in their minds at the time.
I currently have been making a series of rugs (20 per set). I have a total of 6 sets to upload. However, what is not being seen is that I'm also making complete rooms that match the carpets. Thus, the rooms have a more modern tone to them. Carpeting, area rugs, curtains, wall and floor coverings, bedding and even some lighting recolors to match the prints or textures. Big project, but tons of fun :D

California Storms and Sims' Storms
Date Posted: 7th Jan 2008 at 4:48 PM
I think one of the funniest things I've had happen while playing TS2 took place during the height of the recent storms we've had here in California. Both my husband and myself had TS2 running, and in both games, it was thundering and lightning. With 2 games running, and both games producing 'weather related thunderstorm' sounds, it was rather um... loud
Anyway, all of a sudden, a huge clap of thunder and lightning went through my husband's game, and just immediately afterward...our power went out. What we did not realize is that the thunder was so loud because the same events were taking place outside (sans the lightning). So what we thought was 'ultra loud' game thunder, was game thunder coupled with real thunder!!
We both just sat there, in the dark, looking at each other, laughing hysterically. About 5 minutes later, the power came back on, and my son (who's 18) walks into the office and says, "Hey, someone turn the Sims back on! I wanna see if one of them got fried from the lightning!" ROFLOL
My husband and I just looked at each other, then he ooked at our son and said, "If a Sim got fried from this lightning, I assure you I'm never playing this game again!" ROFLOL

Storms and Sims

I had gotten the Sims Seasons CD and was in the process of building a new starter lot, when the power died. Not a huge ordeal, as these are common this time of year in my area. However, when the power came back on, and everyone was settled back in, I sat down at my computer to work more on the house/lot.
To my dismay, it was gone. Ok, not a big deal there (yet). So, I started to build another lot....until the game suddenly crashed. Ok, still not a huge ordeal (yet). Went into the system, found the problem, fixed the problem, started the game again.... or so I thought.
It went as far as the second 'intro', and crashed. This time, permanently. The problem? The power outage had caused one of my Windows programs to glitch and become corrupt. This in turn (somehow) set off a chain reaction throughout my system, corrupting ANYTHING with a similar file extension. Nope, not a bug, just a really stubborn .dll file. lol
So, since I had my files for the game backed up, I fixed the .dll problem (I thought), and loaded the backed up files for my Sims (I thought), and began the game once more. This time it got to the initial neighborhood area... crashed. Went into the files... those files were also corrupt. Oh yay me.
So as it stands, I am now left with the process of downloading all of my mods, all over again (a process that originaly took me well into 3 months). All I can say it thank the gods for this forum (and others like it), or I'd be completely bald from plling my hair out in aggravation by now.
LOL This also means that I will not be making any new creations for a short while, as I will be spending the next few days uploading all my mods (again). This time, they get backed up 4 fold!! (Hey, 20,000 files is alot! LOL)

Peter Rabbit Wall Hangings
Date Posted: 11th Nov 2007 at 1:17 PM
Beatrix Potter (1866 - 1943) was a very well known name in my home when I was a child. Her books were plentiful around my home, and by the time I was 10, my mum had acquired not one, but 5 full collections of her "Peter Rabbit" works. While 4 of the collections remain with her (per my request), I kept the 5th collection as it was one that one of my favorite aunts had given to me as a Christmas Present.
The names of her characters have stuck with me throughout my life as well, and many a pet has been named after the "Peter Rabbit Cast". LOL When the new fairytale contest came out, I saw this as an opportunity to bring Peter Rabbit 'back to life' in yet another fun and (in my opinion) delightful manner for players of all ages.
I'll be adding more to the Peter Rabbit Wall Hanging collection soon. Working on a new recolor for the nursery items, as well as wall coverings (paper, paint and panels), floor coverings (carpeting, tile and linoleum) and possibly some larger wall hangings as well (with more of the Peter Rabbit scenes and a bit more background detail in them).

Norman Rockwell and His Paintings
Date Posted: 7th Nov 2007 at 5:35 PM
While Rockwell was best known for his art in the Saturday Evening Post magazines, one of his best known works was taken right out of the heart of the Berkshires in western Massachusetts, in a little town called Lee.
One of the images in my Rockwell collection shows a police officer sitting next to a young boy who's planning on running away from home, while the short order cook stands behind the counter watching on in amusement. This scene was taken from a diner called "Joe's Diner" (which is where we also get the phrase "Eat At Joe's" from in all the cartoons and such we've seen throughout the years).
The man standing behind the counter is in fact 'Joe', the owner of Joe's Diner, which, still stands today and is continuously serving customers from around the world, including big name stars (Carol Burnette, Bill Murray and Tom Hanks - to name a few).
I've been to Joe's and I can tell you from being in the diner...it looks like a hole in the wall place. Literally. It gives off the look and feel of an old 1950's style greasy spoon place on the side of town that is a 'working man's area' of town (mills, railways, mines, etc.). Well, that's exactly what Joe's diner was originally made for. To serve the working man. The food was good, hot and most importantly, cheap.
Even today, the food is good, hot and yup, it's still cheap. But it's anything but bad food. In fact, Joe's Diner has won several awards for their outstanding food, service and value.
So, if any of you ever go to a little town called Lee, Massachusetts. Check out Joe's Diner (You'll see one of Rockwell's original reprints he made just for the original owner on the wall). Oh, and also... Joe's family still owns and operates the diner :D

Notations On My Open Floor Plans
Date Posted: 4th Nov 2007 at 11:26 PM
When I first started designing homes for my Sims, it was all the way back when Sims 1 first came out. It was through there that I learned quite a few things about the programming EA did with the Sims characters (no matter what zodiac sign or personality type they were).
One of these things I learn (and very quickly too) is that they tend to be more 'active' in wider and cleaner living spaces. By 'clean', I don't mean scrubbed down and whitewashed. I mean a more 'modern' type clean setting. Maybe a 'minimalist' type clean. Un-cluttered.
So now, as I design my homes for TS2, I tend to use as many open floor plans as I can. The exceptions being those homes (like my Traditional New England Home and my Redwood Ranch Home) that 'require' very defined living areas in order to make the look and feel of the home 'proper'.
So in most of my larger homes, as well as all of my modern/art deco style homes, you will always find very large and very wide open floor plans for at least one floor of each home. Which also gives you tons of space to add rooms, larger 'fun pieces' (like a bowling lane) and even first story indoor pool and spa areas! :D

Information on: Sleepy Hallows Victorian Mansion
Date Posted: 29th Oct 2007 at 9:51 PM
Having been born and raised in Massachusetts, there isn't one section of that state I don't know very well. One of my favorite spots to visit was Salem, Massachusetts. Home of the 'Witch trials' of the 1600's.
In that area of the country, homes are built to withstand highly varied weather changes, and with almost every single room having its own 'function'. For example: A Living room isn't always just a livingroom. It was also designed to be a meeting room, family room, guest room, office, entertainment room and sometimes (if the room was large enough) even a ball room.
In this home, the rooms are functional for many things, including the kitchen. Back in the 1600's, on through to the early 1900's, these New England type homes had kitchens that were also multi-functional. Kitchens did not just serve as a place in which food was prepared, but also as a storage unit, processing unit (canning and jarring foods), meeting area for the women and children, a 'warming room' (on cold winter days, most of the family would gather around the huge wood stoves or cooking fireplaces to warm up) and even a home pharmacy and infirmary.
In older homes, it was not uncommon to find small cots along one wall of the kitchen, that were used by the sick in the home, so that they could be taken care of and kept warm, fed and have medicine administered to them, all in one place, leaving their bodies to rest and keep warm.
Thus is the historical basis for my Sleepy Hallows Victorian Mansion. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it for you
