Well, my father was looking in the fire safe and found a couple of fully matured savings bonds given to me when I was little. They are worth together about $414 and change.
My father ask me a seemingly tough decision as we were short on money due to "American issues" (the government would be the responsible party, long story short.) and that was if I wanted to cash them in and buy the Switch 2.
When I calculated with my already accrued cash, I had more than enough. After deciding to get the Nintendo Switch 2, whatever leftover money would go towards 2 pairs of new eyeglasses and an exam.
With the shortage worldwide for the Switch 2 (Mr. Furukawa, head of Nintendo of Japan in Kyoto, vehemently apologized for the underestimated want in the North American market.), I will still be washing dishes this month so I can also get my eyes checked and possibly a new couple of pairs of eyeglasses.
With all this in mind, I do have one more savings bond given to me by my in-law type uncle Rob (he married my father's youngest sister), the only man I know who has a 5 o'clock shadow that clocks in between 10 and 11 am! (No, seriously, when I finally saw his face shaved clean, it was something of a shock.)
I made my decision and I don't regret it. It's waiting that will be harder.
