errrrrrrrrrr to make matters worse, I'm fairly certain this is the last pre-release version he shows up in. It seems like there was a brief moment where Maxis updated his "biped" skin mesh from the old, multi-part .msh file to the same format used for the final adult Sims, which is why his "outfit" is different 😉. I uploaded this screenshot without much thought—it’s just that the spinning arrow looks nice in it!

LivePerson.curAn early design of the The Sims 1 character selection cursor. Maxis included it in a Sims-themed Windows theme pack from late 1999, giving fans a pre-release taste. A notable instance where one can see the cursor in pre-release media is in one of the archived "The Sims Video Club" video excerpts. LUCPIXlpx_1999_cursor.zip

The cursor, when applied to the game:

Little minor update: I PM'd Tashiketh asking them to move this thread over to Sims 1 Creation subforum as... a long time ago, this thread went from being all about wishful musings to a real and bright CC receptacle!

WOW that's really cool! I originally was demanded a user journey gymnastics to find out where the heck the Sims 1 goodies were (that, of course, until my browser got very accustomed to my browsing behavior and supplied me with address bar shortcuts)! Maybe the recent rereleases have motivated this change.

Ooh I was so confused for five seconds when there was an interconnected web between the two forums AND this topic switched forums!

Maybe now that I'm getting over Surprise Week of Illnessâ„¢ I can finally get Level 3 cleaned up and out the door. (I'm still trying to slow dipping my toes back in, in part because the last Sims thing I did seemed like it gave me motion sickness somehow--it probably didn't but I am wary of my brain taking the opportunity to permanently draw a connection between the two because I can't even look at pictures of the last game it did that to (granted, that was a game that actually did give me motion sickness... but still!).)

...Part of the reason I'm so antsy to get Level 3 done is that I anticipate Level 4 being a... rather interesting one in terms of what I end up sharing. XD

I've been recently a recurring victim of what I like to call the Edithâ„¢ Effectâ„¢ (talk about my addiction to find the right alliteration balance), which primarily having repetitive difficulties to hack seemingly basic things into the soccer ball cc TS1 objects to the point of hyperfixation, only to find out the blessed solution to the problem, say, 2 minutes before considering to throw everything in the air. Yeah, this effect is definitely not exclusive to Edith-related endeavours, but I'm basically taking into account my recent memory events, hence the unofficial name. Needless to say, though, cracking the code and figuring out how things works is twice as satisfying as the associated struggle!

SoccerBall.iffMaxis briefly toyed with the idea of a soccer ball object in The Sims 1 around early 1999 but scrapped it almost immediately (conclusion taken via pre-release media research!). No traces of its .iff files (or their corresponding BHAV scripts) remain in the retail build, though two kicking animations—one for children and one for adults—apparently managed to survive? Without actual code, it's impossible to say how the object functioned, but given how group activity objects typically work in the game, it was likely meant for both solo and multiplayer use as a group activity. The object I just hacked builds on that assumption. It’s obviously cloned off of The Sims Online’s soccer ball but reworked to allow more autonomous play — The Sims 1 fashion —, where Sims don’t need constant player input to kick it. It also doubles as a Body Skill training object. If the beta soccer ball didn’t work at least somewhat like this, I’ll eat my hat! LUCPIXDownload Page

Check out the only pre-release snapshots that feature the scrapped soccer ball object!
