Default Fun Facts
What are some fun facts you know about TS2 or any other sims game??

I’ll start - Did you know that in early version of the game, Cassandra Goths dress is a replica of a real Alexander McQueen dress?

It's a pity she didn't choose a hairstyle to go with it!!

Tee hee the sims version looks so... drab and gothic compared to the High Fashion it was supposed to be.

I don't know if this is known or not, but it seems Seasons was a long coming for the saga even back in TS1 days: there were lots of downloads simulating weather and photos retouched to include storms, snow... Simslice made a weather machine that's really amazing and you can program in-game to simulate the passing of seasons. The developers themselves included something like that in the On Vacation expansion: sims get very uncomfortable and supposedly can get ill in Vacation Island if they're not dressed appropiately, and the igloo melts if you place it on a beach lot. You can also use the grass tool to put snow and sand on those lots, by holding CTRL ─a fact a lot of players don't seem to know.

I wish TS1 had a seasons pack - maybe it was too complicated for the hardware at the time? I wonder if somewhere deep in the files of the game there is some code for weather, like there was in TS2 base game

TS1 had simpler graphics/animations than TS2 (sims were 3D, but pretty much everything else was 2D sprites), and I'd think this means it had simpler coding as well.

They always meant to implement weather (and pets, and I'd think most of the other overarching functions from EPs) in TS2. I've seen a quite long post from one of the developers about this, probably from a repost at Tumblr or some such. It's probably still around somewhere (and I likely saved a link, if I can find it...)

I actually like that dress. Pity it isn't available.

They gave her the same hair as she had in Sims 1.

Io on Gardenofshadows made it as a default, I used their textures to make a non-default version. I'll see if I can find it when GoS is back up, I can send you my files in the meantime if you like?

That would be amazing! I remember that default from when I saw browsing the Sims 2 Default Database but never ended up installing it

Okay then, I found Io's original post on GoS on the Archive so I'm going to post the links here, hopefully not breaking any rules!:
https://web.archive.org/web/2024050...49744#msg749744
Original download links still work:
Default version- https://www.mediafire.com/file/evwm...efault.rar/file
Custom version on Io's tweaked mesh: https://www.mediafire.com/file/76f7...go0121.rar/file
The ones I made were Io's red and black textures, on the original Maxis mesh: https://simfileshare.net/download/4852745/ and https://simfileshare.net/download/4852744/

But also I found these in my archive folder, forgot about this one completely, it's a little closer to the Beta Dress image I think and I actually wrote the link down :
https://antoninko.tumblr.com/post/6...ndra-goth-dress
And someone made a default of that one too: https://loosiap.tumblr.com/post/729...-tmtopnaked-and
Nice, eh?

One the funniest facts I know is that when the game was released, within like one (real time) day, players had run into a bug that was somehow never discovered in testing. If you were playing a household with an infant, and you had a visitor, the visitor could walk off the lot with your baby. Visitors could just become kidnappers. And there was no game play way of getting the baby back. If the kidnapper was another playable and you went to play their house, there would be no baby there. It they were a townie, of course you couldn't even check that way. Just baby gone. The baby was still part of the family, but missing from the lot because a visitor just walked off with it, and there was nothing in the software to stop it or remedy it.

To my understanding, this all happened because visitors could cuddle or play with the baby, and then walk off the lot while holding the baby, because there was no check in the software to see if a visitor was holding a baby when it was time for them to leave, and to tell them to put the baby down before they left the lot.

Now, if you left the lot and returned to the lot, the baby would be on the sidewalk next to the mailbox, but in the first hours after release, many players didn't know that and there was some freaking out because visitor stole my baby!

EAxis had a patch out pretty quickly, but it's still funny to me that they never discovered this in testing, or even considered that it might happen.

I remember that one! I had a family with a baby, and they'd hired a nanny-she went off with the baby! She eventually returned it unharmed, and like you said, at the mail box.

I don't remember if this was the same nanny who stole furniture because the family was too poor to pay for her, but I would not be surprised if it had been.

I think it was done in the updates after NL when the mistake was finally fixed.

They never fixed the ability to accidentally take a baby or a puppy/kitten to work with you lol.

if a Sim is carrying a parrot on their shoulder, they won't put it back before leaving for a carpool job.

In my game Ginger Newson once took Garrett (a toddler) to school with her. She wasn't even carrying him; he was levitating in front of her. I wasn't sure if I could rely on EA / Maxis to bring him back, but of course it wasn't them who took him -- it was Ginger Newson, and I should have had faith in her! I reckon she is one of the most trustworthy characters I've ever had the privilege to meet. Of course she brought him back safely at one o'clock. Still levitating in front of her. I think I used the Sim manipulator to keep his motives up while he was away.

@simsample -- I got a bit confused over all the different versions of Cassandra's Alexander McQueen dress. But I see that, in addition to the default replacement, io shared a non-default version in four colours. In the end I went for her non-default black version, along with her custom mesh. So Cassandra will have it to change into as her formal outfit, when I eventually get round to playing Pleasantview. But, if I ever wanted to use the Maxis version, I'm not sure where to get the mesh. Is it already in the base game files?

Yes. Cassandra wears the mesh when you first load her house.

I've just opened up Pleasantview for the first time in seven and a half years to look for myself. So EA/Maxis ditched the McQueen dress for a much drabber design of their own, but using the same mesh. I wonder why: could Mortimer not afford Alexander McQueen's prices. Or he could he afford them, but refused to pay them. . .

Anyway, now that I've opened Pleasantview, I think I'll play it for a few days, as a break from a very populous Veronaville. While I have already played a very loose rotation there, I really haven't got far with it. Brandi hasn't even had her baby yet.

However, I have it on the best authority that McQueen's dress is now available in the Pleasantview shops for §200! So Cassandra will be able to buy it herself with her own money. And, while I would think that an extortionate amount to pay for my clothes (I usually shop at Primark!), I fear the late Alexander McQueen would think it ridiculously low price for one of his haute couture creations. So I hope his ghost doesn't come and haunt poor Cassandra for getting his dress too cheap!!

I tried all of the dresses, but I thought that the Antoninko one looked most like the original, barring the bottom white bit.

I’m actually wondering this, because HELLO??? Maybe the alexander McQueen dress was a placeholder for what would be the actual dress??

Or maybe Alexander himself reached out

Maybe he wanted EA to pay him for using his dress.

There was an absurd similar case in Edinburgh a few years ago. The Laura Ashley company (not Laura herself -- she died in 1985) claimed that a livery being used by Lothian Buses on their wheelchair accessible 'buses, was copied from a Laura Ashley dress. I admit there was a very slight similarity, but seriously one was a high fashion dress, and the other was a paint job on a 'bus. I'm pretty sure the Laura Ashley company never got any money! Now, if Lothian Buses had started dressing their staff (most of whom are male!) in Laura Ashley style dresses, then I think Laura Ashley might have had a case.

P.S. This gives me the idea, that maybe I should start dressing the 'bus drivers in my game in high fashion evening dresses!

Her current dress is Medieval so she would have a Medieval 🏰 hairstyle

In fact - Veronaville should perhaps be the same, and Strangetown go futuristic.
