This song has been speaking to me lately.

Because the earth is standing still, and the truth becomes a lie
A choice profound is bittersweet, no one hears Cassandra Goth cry

Lovely @ScaryRob , some good old tunes there! The original of that first track was recorded by The Vibrations, and I saw them around 10 years ago performing that song at a Northern Soul weekender in North Wales. I even got their autographs on one of their singles at that event! Not sure which members they were though, or if they are still alive...

I'd always suspected that there was an earlier/soul version to that song because, frankly, the lyrics are not something you'd identify with white guys.

The Cruising series of productions are one of the coolest things ever made in regard to rock/pop oldies, I think, although there is a caveat. Orinially produced in the early to mid 1970s, they were re-issued in the 1980s, except at that time the publisher was not able to obtain the rights to republish all the songs, so some of those 1980s re-issues have songs missing or replaced by other songs. For this reason, the original 1970s productions are pricier and considerably harder to find. My uncle had an 8-track version of Cruising 1965 at the time and I'm sure the entire series were also on cassette. Collectors, of course, would probably want vinyl, and good luck with that, both in terms of availability and price.

As an example, there is also the 1980's publication of 'Cruising 1965' on YT and it has the last song, 'A Lover's Concerto', missing.

EDIT: The YT video I posted uptopic is also not the original LP release, contrary to the uploaders description, because I just noticed that Petula Clark's 'Downtown' is missing. I give more info in the comments to the video on YT.
Also, the original vinyl LP's are perhaps not as pricey as I may have thought, but one does have to be careful to get the 1970's printings. There's a Wikipedia page with more info here.

EDIT: One of the references at the bottom of that Wikipedia page links to a defunct site on the Internet Archive, here, that has detailed info on all the original Cruisin' albums, the radio stations featured, the DJ's and the songs.
