Default Releasing locks on files
I think this is really a general technical issue, even though it has arisen through me playing TS2. I last played a couple of days ago, and now I'm trying to copy all my game files into a zip file for backup purposes. Unfortunately I have a TempDBSegmentPackedFile_??????????.tmp file, which I can neither archive nor delete, because the program has failed to close the file properly. Clearly the operating system has some sort of lock on the file. I know I can release the lock and then delete the file by rebooting my computer, but I really don't want to reboot at present, as I have a program that I want to leave running. I know that the ICT Supportt people where I work can release locks like this on their servers without rebooting. (Obviously they don't want to reboot the servers if it can be helped!) Does anyone know if there's a way for me to view and remove these locks on my home PC. I'm the only regular user, so clearly I do have Administrator rights, but I can't view the security properties of this file, and when I try to take ownership of it I get an "Access is denied" message. I have Windows 7 (Starter Edition).

Annoying thing is that I know perfectly well that it's a temporary file that the program ought to have deleted!

Try CCollomb's Unlocker: http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/

What I lack in decorum, I make up for with an absence of tact.
