Default Give Peace a Chance!

This is the sort of thing I love to see. After twelve years of trying to end the ancient feud in Veronaville, I'm trying to bring peace and reconciliation to Pleasantview too. A tentative kiss of reconciliation between Angela and Lilith. There's a long way to go, but there's something about Lilith's smile, and the gentle way she's placed her hand on Angela's arm, that reassures me that Lilith for her part is determined to give this sororal reconciliation her best shot. I hope they do succeed! If these two can get together, along with their boyfriends Dirk and Dustin, I'm sure they can be the ones to blow away the old cobwebs from the town, and make Pleasantview a pace to be proud of for the 21st century. This kiss took place in the Oldies' kitchen in Woodland Drive.

Wow, how did you get that to happen? Lilith usually runs away before I can make the family friends with her, so I always move her in with Herb and Coral for safety!

It's not quite what it looks like! I was playing the Oldies. The two teenage boys Josh McInnes and Don Barlow pictured in the 3rd picture in this Teen Sims Pictures thread post have both now moved in with the Oldies, after Coral fell for Josh and Herb started to make moves on Don. (I'll try and post how that happened shortly in the "What's happening in your game" thread.) So they invited their daughter (Mary-Sue) and their grandchildren (Angela and Lilith) round to introduce them to their new young friends. Angela's boyfriend Dustin Broke also happened to be passing, so they invited him in too. So, with about nine Sims milling about in the house, there was a lot of socialising. Mostly I was concentrating on what Coral and Herb were doing with their new extra-marital boyfriends, but I noticed Lilith and Angela standing near each other, and Angela wasn't looking too happy! So I made her controllable with Dolphin's Control this Sim, and found her absolutely furious with Lilith. There was nothing in her memory or in Lilith's to explain this, but I guess Lilith had just done something that really upset Angela. I see myself as a peacemaker, so I looked to see what I might do to repair their relationship. Angela had the "Appreciate - Apologise" interaction available so I tried it. Lilith accepted the apology and Angela became a little bit less furious with her. So I got Angela to keep apologising to Lilith until her fury was spent. I also got Lilith to apologise to Angela a few times. When both girls were done apologising to each other, I looked to see what else was available that might further improve their relationship. Family Kiss was not available to either of them, but BoilingOil's social "Kiss Cheek" was available to both of them. Now Kiss : Kiss Cheek has a very easy acceptance, easier than most other social interactions. When interacting with a newly met Sim, I think it has the second easiest acceptance after "Entertain : Joke". I use it a lot, and it's probably the reason why my game is quite so touchy-feely! It uses the same animation as Family Kiss. (To be honest, my game is full of scantily clad Sims who frequently kiss other scantily clad Sims whom they've only just met!)

Anyway Lilith kissed her sister, and Angela happily accepted the kiss. Which gives me the hope that, before too long, they may actually become real friends. Lilith's STR with Angela is 53, which I take to mean she's already willing to be friends with her sister. Angela is a little behind with an STR to Lilith of 25, but that's still positive, so she could still become friends with her sister if she's prepared to work at it. However their Long Term Relationships (-38 Lilith to Angela, and -49 Angela to Lilith) are still very negative, so I think I'm still best not to leave them together uncontrolled until this improves. I recall a similar situation in Veronaville between Romeo and Tybalt when Tybalt decided to become friends with Romeo. Romeo had difficulty adjusting to Tybalt suddenly wanting to be his friend, and for a while they were queuing a mixture of positive and negative interactions with each other. I had to be careful playing them together for a while, but today they're both firmly best friends, and have been for years. Now of course Romeo was a very frequent visitor at Capp Manor, but at least they didn't actually live together. And of course Lilith and Angela do live together, so I have to be careful when they're together. I may actually consider letting her temporarily move in with her grandparents. She can still talk to Angela on the 'phone, but of course it's impossible to hit anyone over the 'phone, no matter how angry you get with them. Of course there's not so much space in the Oldies' house since those boys moved in. But, rather to my surprise, the boys brought over ยง18K with them when they moved in. That means there's plenty of funds to pay for any alterations needed to make room for Lilith. If I had waited till the boys were townies, they'd probably have brought next to nothing.

I know some people dislike Angela because her parents have clearly made her their favourite. But that's their fault -- not hers! Angela herself has a sense of fairness. Like many of us her tendency is to side with the underdog. That's why she made Dustin her boyfriend -- clearly he has few advantages in life. Dustin has recently helped her to see that her own sister is an underdog too. That was just too close for her to see. So she's certainly willing to try to make up with her sister now, but years of hostility and distrust are hard to put aside. The girls will certainly need some help.

As well as telephone conversations if Lilith does move out, there are two other things I think I might try to try to bring them together. Firstly, I find that getting two Sims with a bad relationship to sit together on a sofa often brings them into constructive conversation. Hanging out together is also good if they'll agree to it. But I suppose there's always the danger of one of them standing up and hitting the other one. So possibly the best option is to get them, having attended to their physical needs, to sit down at a chess table and play for hours. Unless one of the tries to cheat (and I don't think either will), I find playing chess together is one of the best ways for Sims to forget their differences and become real friends.

I don't think the girls' boyfriends, Dustin and Dirk have any problems with each other. So if the Pleasant sisters can reconcile their differences, there will be nothing to stop the four of them getting together. Once that happens, I believe that Lilith, Angela, Dustin and Dirk can be the "awesome foursome" that will drag the old dysfunctional community of Pleasantview, kicking and screaming, into the 21st Century!

Since this is the thread for pictures of Maxis-Made Sims, here's one, taken about a month ago, of Dustin kissing Angela outside the Broke house:

Dustin is wearing his new outfit, chosen to represent him giving up his life of crime. Which is what Angela wanted.

Ahh that's lovely, I like how you give all of your sims a helping hand to really making the most of their relationships with others.

Default Cassandra and Friends
Following the break-up of her relationship with Don Lothario, Cassandra Goth got herself a makeover.

Cassandra often still thinks about Don and her relationship with him, but it's never a positive thought! She finds it hard to forgive and forget.
The picture was taken inside the Crossroads Restaurant which I built ten years ago when I last played Pleasantview. It's a small restaurant near the clothes shop at 330 Main Street, at the crossroads where Oak Street crosses the road that leads out of town to the bridge over the creek. It had a bit of a makeover a few months ago, when the kitchen was reduced in size, allowing a bigger dining area.

Still in the Crossroads Restaurant only a few minutes later, Cassandra is still there fuming about Don and his lack of fidelity. But the picture also shows a couple of Maxis Pleasantview townies. Striding towards us in her revealing new outfit, is Jan Tellerman, the despair of husband Komei. Having seen how she carried on with Don in his rooftop hot tub, I can't help thinking that her outfit really suits her. I'm not sure if Cassandra knows about Jan and Don, but it's maybe better if she doesn't. To the right of the picture, seated at a table eating lobster thermidor, is Brandi LeTourneau. Brandi hasn't had a makeover (yet!).
