There was an update to Windows 11 some months ago, and now when I press the Print Screen key it automatically directs me to cropping a part of my screen to copy and save as a screenshot, or I can choose to copy the whole screen and it saves both in the clipboard and in my screenshots folder. Before this update I needed to do Print Screen + Home to save an automatic screenshot. However, when I'm on the sims, pressing the print screen key alone only copies my current screen on the clipboard.

Me, personally, I always use print screen to copy my screen and I immediately go to Paint (I'll never stop using this program haha) and I crop the edges, name the photo, and save it. I prefer doing this because I like giving my screenshots a chronological number that makes sense to me and a name of what's going on in my photo so that I can later search by sims' names. I have taken screenshots before and waited till I'm done playing to crop and rename my pictures, but I find it quite tedious. I'm just used to cropping and naming them at the time of taking them, and then I keep on playing

Windows 10 and later (and possibly 8 as well, I don't know) have a screenshot option enabled by default. It's the Windows key + printscreen button, and saves in a folder inside the native "Pictures" folder. Took me long enough to figure out that one

Not sure about earlier versions, though. I think I used the Printscreen + Paint/Photoshop method for a very brief time, but other than that I've used Gadwin Printscreen since my XP computer.

I prefer to keep on playing instead of editing between each screenshot and edit later (I usually have more time for editing than playing), so having the pictures save in a folder is a must.

In settings>accessibility>screenshots, switch off where it says 'use print screen to open snipping tool'.

I don't recall setting it up. As I recall, I've been able to make a screenshot by just pressing PrintScreen (without the Windows key) ever since I got the new computer in October 2020, even before I got The Sims 2 to run properly on it. Maybe it does have something to do with me subscribing to Office 365, which I did almost immediately on getting the computer. Office 365 includes a lot more space on OneDrive than I'd get with Windows 10 alone.

Nah, I don't use Office at all and I have the same feature without having set it up.

It's a feature of Windows 10 and 11, take a look at the article I linked earlier. The snipping tool is too.

Snipping tool must be 11, because I never had to turn it off and I have 10.

I'm kind of glad that my computer doesn't support 11.

Snipping tool is in 10, and the ability to bind it to print screen is too. It sounds like it was turned on in an update for some with 11 though.

For the first time in 15+ years of playing this game I moved a family from one neighbourhood to another. I was messing around with CAS in my test hood while sorting out my default replacements and the randomise button created one of the most beautiful sims I've seen, so I moved her and her dog to Belladonna Cove where they'll sit in the bin until I feel like adding a fresh face. Moving only added 2 character files, they were fresh out of CAS so had no relations with anyone else.

So I have a pretty big hood with many generations and my rules regarding “incest” are:

1. Their parents don't have family tags with each other
2. They don't have the same last name
3. They're not in the same family line in my game (I color-code the foundling families in my spreadsheet)

I was considering pairing off Leah Castillo with neighbor Luke Jitmakusol, but then I realized I can't do that, Luke is light blue- aka the Castillo family line- and her last name is Castillo.

Then it occurred to me that by my rules, Leah may carry the last name Castillo, but her family hasn't actually been in the Castillo patrilineage for 5 generations:

Leah's father- Adriano Castillo
Adriano Castillo's father- Luis Martinez
Aracely Castillo's father- Benjamin Hunicke
Carolina Castillo's father- Damian Salvatore
Lucia Castillo is the sister of Luke Jitmakusol's grandmother Maria, who married Nawaaf Jitmakusol

I went through all this and then I realized.....it doesn't matter because Leah and Luke's moms are sisters. The irony of Luke and Leah being related didn't occur to me until just this moment

Normally I don't make CAS pixels to go into the townie group, but because I have so many pixels in Duma Key that have emotional and other problems, I've made one to become the town Therapist-Dr. Sigmund Freud-I created him to be the local therapist who is on call for anyone to talk to during normal waking hours. I gave him a phone-and he is in the yellow pages.
He will also be visiting various houses, to get to know people better. He will not become an 'active' playable because I wish him to stay old and wise.

I will probably be doing the same for Tinsel Town-having an on-call therapist might help all of those pixels who need someone to talk to and have nobody.

Getting back into a hood for the first time in months and having to start on a house with toddler quads is not the best experience...

Modders, please name your files logically! If I can't find inge's teleporter cat in my downloads neither by searching "inge", "teleporter" or "cat", it is not a good file name!

This is where doing a search and putting an asterisk in front of the word you're looking for comes in, so that you can search for a term that's in the middle of a longer string. Inge named his things ijWhateverthemod is, which isn't illogical. Not that it would help find every file, but it's a start.

A handy tip for searching, use * and whatever you're searching for, so as an example,
*teleport
*cat
This searches for the actual letters, especially if there aren't any spacers. That way you get all results ("jjteleporter.package" or "browncat.package") and not just results that start with or have the words after a spacer, like "teleporter.package" or "jj_teleporter.package" or "brown-cat.package")

Downloading default replacements is fun! Until you realise the default you chose is only for adult female and this outfit also has teen and/or elder versions you need to replace.

Or the opposite, when you find a good default for the teen version and it also replaces the adult and you can't easily separate them.

Oddly enough... it's called "ijTeleporterApartments". So, if you searched your downloads for 'teleporter' you shoulda found it.

One way to keep the confusion down:

Have folders with the modder's name on them. I have a lot of Inge's stuff in my downloads, and so I put all of her works into one folder. Makes for a lot less messy downloads.

It depends on what you're going to search by, though. I can't in the least remember who made what; if I'm searching for a particular armchair I'm going to look under "armchairs." To find the teleporter I'd go to my mods file. The important thing is to organize in the way that's intuitive to you.

It's a bit fussy and tedious, after a big download spree, to sort everything into different folders; but it pays for itself during the 50/50.

I only learned about the asterisk thing recently from here. So, originally I wouldn't have been able to find 'Teleporter' in that file because it's in the middle. The asterisk thing needs to be more widely spread about!

I have my mods folder sorted into subfolder by creator, I usually have a rough idea who has made a mod.

Build/Buy type stuff is sorted into subfolder by item because I wouldn't usually remember the name.
