Default Own chef in an owned restaurant?
I've created a restaurant as an owned community business.
I put in the industrial-looking stove (otherwise the restaurant said "under construction"). I can hire staff, but not my own chef - with the stove automatically came a chef NPC. With the podium I do not get 'chef' or similar as an assignable task - although I do get 'cook food', but that food goes to the owner's inventory and does not seem to get served.

Is this normal behaviour, i.e. can we not have our own chef employee in a restaurant, or am I missing something obvious?

Thanks to all who help,
Gwenke

Just double checking a few things here:
You installed the podium
You have installed the "Tempest Cooktop by Caus" No other stove will do.
And have tables and chairs.
You don't have a ticket machine on the property (that wreaks havok with restaurants).

When you click on the Tempest Cooktop, you should be able to assign the chef.
It almost seems as if the lot acting as if it is a community lot and not a pvt. business. I've never gotten the 'cook food' option in a restaurant. Only a take-out food business. Double check you have the correct stove.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I installed the podium, as well as the Tempest Cooktop, have chairs, tables, and no ticket machine.
Actually, I am able to greet, seat and serve guests at the restaurant.
The only thing I cannot do is assign my own chef instead of an NPC that automatically comes with the stove (it is the same NPC always at this restaurant, so one solution could also be to grab her, boost up her cooking and see if her skill remains high after saving and re-entering the restaurant).

The stove seems the culprit though - I do not get an option to assign a chef (I thought I would have to click on the podium for that, like the other jobs, so thanks for pointing it out).

I'll go and check the stove.

Thanks again,

If double checking the stove proves that you have the correct stove, I would suggest going through this tutorial (in particular removing the downloads folder) to see if you have some custom content that is breaking the stove.

Apparently the original Tempest Cooktop was overwritten by a customised tempest cooktop. I removed some suspicious downloads having to do with the tempest cooktop and now everything is OK.
Except that I do not have time to play.
When I do I will identify the actual culprit and try to notify its creator, although it won't be easy.
Thanks again.

Good to know you have it working. It's amazing what custom content can do to a game. That's why we recommend removing your downloads folder first to see if there is anything that is borking the game.

And yes, please let the creator know if their stove is overwriting the Maxis one, once you figure out which one is the culprit.

This thread is old enough to legally vote in the United States. Thanks for sharing this info redmadnes, but can we start new threads instead of necro'ing ancient ones?

Posting to an old thread is allowed if you are posting with updated relevant information. I would say that counts.
