I tried to convert a community lot to a residential lot. Unfortunately, the mailbox had already been deleted. I keep reading that a mailbox from http://daydream.etowns.net will work. But, it looks like the website is either closed or erroring.

Does anyone know if anything else will work for this issue? Or is anyone else having issues with this site? There are a few mailboxes on here, but I they don't seem to be useful for this problem.

I used this thread when searching for a buyable mailbox, but unfortunately the two listed above did not meet my needs. I have now made a universal buyable mailbox, located here.

I found the original! Will still look like a mailbox after you place it. And will allow default mailbox if you follow these directions.
Here it is, and some directions for you.

WARNING! Only change an UNPLAYED community lot to residential. It okay if you placed it and built on it with no sims. Do NOT change lot zoning with sims currently living on a lot.
SEDD Buyable residential mailbox and trash can by DeeDee at Sim a Little Dream a Lot:

Download the AL one, unless you don't have Apartment Life.
And the trash can from BV, since it still works and she didn't need to redo it.
Unzip and put in your downloads folder. Put it in a labeled folder so you can remove later.

Go into the game and go into your community lot you want to turn into a residential.
Press ctrl-shift-c. (All 3 keys at once.)
There will now be a blank box at the top of the screen. You may need to click on it for your cursor to show up there.
Type "changelotzoning residential".
Click the info button to confirm it is now residential. It looks like the letter i on the upper left of the screen. If you don't see it, click the buy button.
If these are apartments, you can change the lot zoning to apartments and this will still work, provided you downloaded the AL version. When you place it, it will show up as the proper one for the lot zoning.

Exit the lot.
Do NOT move any sims in yet.
Enter the lot again.

Ctrl-shift-c
Type "moveobjects on".

In buy mode, go to miscellaneous, miscellaneous. Look for the mailbox and trash can. They look like a base game one. They will probably be on the first page near the bottom.
Note: If you didn't change the lot zoning to residential (or apartment) or you didn't exit and re-enter the lot, they will not be your buy catalog. Follow the directions and they will be there.

Place the residential mailbox and trash can. AFTER you place both the residential mailbox and trash can, delete the community lot phone booth and trash can.

Exit the lot and enter again to confirm it worked.
If you have a default replacement mailbox, or cc recolors of the mailbox or trash can, they might not show up. I have a solution for this!
Save and exit the game.
Remove the 2 downloads from your game, but don't delete them! Every time I think I don't need that mailbox I find a cool lot that would be better as residential. A folder on your desktop is very handy.

When you go back in the game, load the lot with no sims to confirm you made no mistakes. (Like forgetting to save.)
If you followed these directions, the lot will have the residential mailbox and trash can. If you have a default mailbox, it will look like that. If you have recolors, they will be available. (You may need to use moveobjects on to recolor the mailbox.)

You can do all this with the BV mailbox even with all expansion and stuff packs and get the same result. I have done it this way for a long time.

If you are ever without this in the future and the site is down, start checking each lot you download with clean installer. Look for the SEDD mailbox. It's tagged along on many a lot. If you see it, you can grab it and set it aside in case of emergency.

The SEDD version is a bit old, possibly has some issues (especially if you put the files in the Downloads folder) - you'll want one that works from the install location - if you put the mailbox/trashcan in your Downloads folder, every single mailbox/trashcan recolor you've ever downloaded or installed with a lot will attach to every lot you package (trust me, this mess can get extremely annoying to clean up)

Yes, I think the SEDD one breaks the recolourability that came with M&G.

The SEDD ones are not "buyable" objects, they are brand new clones that are only a "default" because it shares the same GUID in the OBJD as the Maxis version. They contain all the meshes, textures and bhavs of the originals. This will cause conflicts with any default textures, meshes or any mods that edit mailbox functions.

You absolutely want to use the actual Buyable ones by sophiedavid and not the SEDD ones. All of their "buyables" are not just the Maxis item enabled in the catalog, but actual new cloned objects.
