I mean, if you breathe evenly, you just gently bob up and down, but if you take a big breath you are on the surface for the time you can keep it in, but when you breathe out you go underwater because your lungs have just got rid of a lot of air and haven't got any to keep you on the surface. then you're underwater before you can get a breath.
That's how even breathing is important.

I figured out the breathing-keeping-me-at-the-surface-thing, but the moving-of-the-legs-and-hands it's what's killing me .

Yeah, well, moving gracefully is not a boys thing.
