Default Mod to stop randomly generated career outfits
I have no background in modding so not sure if this would be difficult to create but basically I want to create a mod that makes it so sims (controlled and NPC's) not be able to generate any random career outfits and only be able to use the default outfits for the current career/profession levels. I also want it so sims in the Showtime EP professions be the only careers that are able to change outfits (if this makes things more difficult then I will have them only use default also). Basically I want to revert the changes made before the Showtime patch that allowed us to be able to edit career looks.

I'm sick of seeing random career outfits that make no sense and would much rather have the default career outfits on all sims.

Would this be too difficult to do as a first time modder?

Any feedback or tips would be greatly appreciated and how do I get started!

Is this behaviour you can recreate without any mods installed?

I don't think I've ever seen sims in randomised career outfits to begin with, only the uniforms. Maybe the occasional weird hair. Outdated / bad CC, or even some incorrect assignments by EA themselves, could be causing outfits to be rerolled. Or mod interference perhaps? In short, this feature isn't intentional- it happens when the game thinks there's something wrong with the outfit.

There's some discussion here that suggests it's a bug we haven't actually found the cause of yet: https://www.nraas.net/community/err...ssion/topic9546
So unfortunately seems a challenge to tackle, if even one of the NRaas developers cannot see what exactly needs to be fixed

Thank you so much for your comment!

The career outfit consistently bugs out when I add a new outfit or plan their outfits/change their hair styles for some reason. I did a little testing and this is what I've noticed:

If a sim changes either their hairstyle, top, bottom, accessories or shoes AND that item is not available in the career outfit category then that part of the outfit would change. I think it could be fixable if there could be a mod that unlocks every single item in CAS to be unlocked in the career outfit category? Is something like this possible?

Thanks again!

I don't know if changing career outfits in an unmodded game was possible. If it is, you can use unlockOutfits on cheat before entering CAS, which will enable career outfits.

I also found this mod, apparently, it would allow you to add a preset outfit to your Sim's current outfit category.

This is a signature.

NRaas MasterController does this by default- or it tries to, but there have been a few reports of the MC filters struggling with outfit invalidation and sometimes its parts get reset anyway.
If you already have MC, this could be the behaviour you were seeing. It would be better to disable that filter in the MC > CAS settings in that case, and use overrides that recategorise the CAS items you want available for career instead ie. by adding the flags with S3OC, or you could check my recategorisation tutorial.

If you didn't have MC when you saw that behaviour, may be worth installing it and seeing if the default career filter fixes it. Make sure any changes are made in MC CAS or MC Stylist specifically

Yes changing career outfits is in the base game since the Showtime patch, unlocking outfits helps to an extent but it doesn't fix much with this issue. I will check out that mod thanks!

Thank you, I will look into those then!

Yes I do use MC I can't play without it and it's the only thing allowing me to edit the main career outfit when it gets bugged haha.
