How to merge IFF files
I tried with the IFF Pencil without luck. same with the Transmogrifier. I'm not sure if there was an option and I didn't see it.
Anyway, thanks in advance for reading

What exactly is it that you're trying to do?

IFF Pencil 2 has an Import option. You can import as a data-only file or as an IFF file with resources. For most uses, it's better to import as an IFF file with resources.

You have to know what you're doing, though -- what you're importing, why you're importing it, and how it's supposed to work with the rest of the object. BHAV's don't work automatically; they have to be called or triggered by another BHAV.

There's a fairly rudimentary description of importing at Woobsha, here: http://www.woobsha.com/diy-sswPatchInstructions.htm#ip.

Sorry, if it's too late, but actually you can merge iff files. You just need another program. It is called FarOut. With it you can pack bunch of separate iff files into one neat bundle in *.far format. What can be merged: objects with no additional animations, deco objects, skins and heads textures. Do NOT merge mods, animations, meshes. Not sure about walls and floors, but possibly they can be merged as well - I'm yet to test it.

I think the OP was trying to import the functionality of one object into another object, rather than simply trying to have several objects in one large file, which is what FarOut does.

I like to have an "organized" cc, so merging all the colors of an object is easier for me. I've so many subfolders...

Yeah, to do that you're gonna have to do some heavy editing of your IFF files. While its possible to have multiple color choices (Hedda at Some Sim Things made a table that you could change the colors of the tablecloth, for example), its a complicated job. You have to edit the BHAVs, add extra DRGP resources, and edit the TTAB. Plus, you'd need to edit the XML file for these new choices too.

Unfortunately it doesn't work in TS1 as it works in TS2, where you can just add recolors to existing objects. It's possible to merge recolors and there are several objects working this way where you can choose the color using the pie menu, but as Chik said it's not easy.

In theory it's entirely possible to put separate objects (not pie-menu recolors but separate individual objects) in a common iff--some Maxis objects work this way, i.e. several dining tables in one iff that rely on a lot of common code but are entirely separate objects, for instance. (And then that iff is inside a far. Fun!)

I take it most people who have made objects they've published online don't do this because it doesn't let people pick and choose what they want (and potentially more complicated to make than just offering separate objects). Bit of a "neat catalog for people who don't want extra objects" versus "neat download folder for people who do want extra objects". (And then, of course, pie menu with single object is best of both worlds clutter-wise (one object in download folder, one object in catalog) but requires even more know-how than the other two options, so far as I can tell.)

You can, but again its a buttload of work - even more than pie-menu selection. Plus, multi-part IFFs - thats what Maxis uses - don't actually take up less room in the catalog. Each part of the IFF has its own listing. It *does* mean you have less to look at in your game folders but make zero difference in the actual game.

Ah! I suppose my assumptions of which were harder between pie menu vs multi-part were backwards... I blame my only finally starting to really understand object hacking last year. XP XD ...I have much to learn. ._.

Thanks everyone
I didn't know it would be so complicated
Anyway, if it's like that I'd rather leave it as it is

Sorry we couldn't be of help. TS1 is a whole different ballgame, unfortunately.
