Default TS1 Mod — Fixed Policewoman Michelle Behavior

This fix restores an unused behavior where Michelle the Policewoman attacks the burglar prior to capturing him.

Works in all versions.

Techy explanation:

While digging through the Police Officer Michelle .IFF file, I took a closer look at her behavior tree and noticed something odd—her logic is actually incomplete, meaning she doesn’t act the way Maxis likely intended. Specifically, in her Private "catch thief" tree, there's a node that references another private tree, "push fight", which contains the code that trigger a physical confrontation with her and the burglar (more or less in the same vein as the Sims 2 cop vs. burglar fights). The problem? It’s completely orphaned—no other node’s 'True' branch links to it, so the game just ignores it. As a result, instead of putting up a fight, she just approaches the burglar, makes eye contact, and he immediately gives up. Did nobody ever find this weird? Lol.

👆"catch thief" as-is. Note that none of the primitives are connected to the node containing the "push fight" tree!👆

I resolved this by tweaking the NPC's script to ensure the "push fight" routine executes properly, rather than being skipped as it was by default. The result? Michelle now behaves as originally intended—she confronts the burglar, leading to his capture. Whether this was an overlooked beta remnant or a simple developer oversight is unclear, but the fix restores a fully functional (and comedic) interaction. 👮‍♀️🐱‍👤

P.S.: This game has been around for 25 years, so there's a good chance someone has already looked into this. Apologies if this is old news!

Fabulous! Thanks so much.

I've made some mods for The Sims 1 -- yes, The Sims ONE :-) -- which you can find at http://corylea.com/Sims1ModsByCorylea.html

Hi, LUCPIX! I'm using the Complete Collection and have the mod in GameData>Objects, but the policewoman doesn't seem to attack the burglar. She looks at him and he puts his hands in the air. Is there a reason why it's not working for me?

Hey |usagi!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you moved Officer.iff to GameData/Objects. Try moving the actual "People" folder from the zip to GameData/Objects, rather than just Officer.iff. If it still doesn’t work, let me know!

I am playing with the idea of creating easy and safe 1-Click installers for players who want to install my hacks, but are new to installing mods!

This will soon be carried over to the other mods as well.

Let me know what you think. Does it make the installing process easier?

💾👇 1-Click Install:

lpx_fixedofficerbehavior_original.zip (for original 2000-2005 release players)
lpx_fixedofficerbehavior_steam.zip (for Legacy Steam release players)
lpx_fixedofficerbehavior_eaapp.zip (for Legacy EA app release players)

💾👇 Manual Download:

p.s.: (does anyone know the Epic Games Legacy version files path?)
