I've watched it this morning, I genuinely love her explanations and how thoroughly she is - I'm glad she took the time to explain why certain things can cause corruption in the LE and not in the UC. I was also disappointed in reading what they did to fix the shadow issue, probably using Nopke fix as reference...

I'm obviously sticking to the UC for the time being.

In a sense it is people's fault because they went against ages old wisdom to try to fix what wasn't very broken, and then not reverting to a working version. There is always discomfort when installing new versions of software. What she says about new bugs coming with every change is true. But people always try to power through with new Windows & Office & Photoshop.

I'm glad April made a video talking about what @kestrellyn found about inventory. That is something critical and unfortunately it was going unnoticed. So now there will be less confusion, for now, the Ultimate Collection is stable, although it requires mods like rpc and can't manage memory well on some computers. However, Legacy is proving to have critical errors related to corruption and does not seem safe at the moment.

Why they mingled with the source code is beyond explanation to me (not a modder, only a builder). Was that necessary to fix all of the issues? How could they broke the game like that? Ok, the developers did make fixes, but still...

The fact that it seems they haven't tested it after making changes is what's baffling me. And yet... It's not...

Changing the source code with the goal of creating a version that has the known bugs fixed and in compatible with modern PCs makes complete sense. In theory this could create a version of The Sims 2 that doesn't require the existing community fixes to play, making it easily accessible to players new to the series. Skimping out on testing even the most basic elements of gameplay, which seeing how obvious the errors are they must have, is... baffling.

As far as I'm aware, the only known issue in UC that could only be fixed by mucking with the C++ is the problem with the randomizer, and obviously we've already fixed that with RPC anyway. The incompatibility with modern computers and graphics cards mostly seems to be a configuration issue that is fixed by fixing the configuration files. The other problems are script-level issues that are fixed with mods. In any case, none of those issues actually seem to have been fixed in the Legacy version, anyway, at least not as far as I'm aware. The only fix I've heard of having been applied was Nopke's shadowfix.

I would be interested for someone to do a check of the files' checksums and see which ones are modified since the Ultimate Collection.
