Default Glowing Items
Notice the truck and the diving board, looks like they are illuminated from within. I tried a mod, it altered interior lights but didn't address this. Is there a way to eliminate this glow?

Is it only THAT truck that glows?

There is a bloom effect in the game when certain graphical setting is turned on (Advanced Rendering), that makes both interior and exterior items to have stronger shining effect. Do you have any other items glowing than the truck because we can't see from the screenshot?

In case you didn't done it yet here's a tutorial how to remove the bloom effect : https://annythingsims.tumblr.com/po...ng-bloom-effect

Here's also solution for the dimmed screenshots - Smooth Patch
After installing Smooth Patch there is a setting in TS3Patch.txt that turns on borderless mode. After activating it you have to toggle off full screen mode in the game. From there the screenshot won't be dimmed.

Combinating Smooth Patch with Setting Settler will bring smoother, lag free gaming

No, essentially any very bright color glows like that (another sim also has that truck in dark green, it doesn't glow). If I recolor kitchen cabinets to have a light colored countertop, they glow. Snow is atrocious, the glow obliterates small items such that I must zoom in very close to see them.

As mentioned, any bright color will glow; you want table lamps and streetlamps to glow, you don't want countertops and diving boards and cars to glow. I'll try that fix, though it says it also eliminates headlights on cars, so it's a tossup.

My game runs smoothly as is, only the occasional known Win11 stutter, fps limited to 30 in vid driver settings. But it's nice to know the dark screenshots aren't a system issue; I thought of trying a different program for screenshots in Sims3, I've just been using prntscrn and paste into paint.

Smooth Patch does a few things. Not hard to put it in and see if it helps. It removes by just deleting it. Another thing is, do you have any CC lighting mods?

"...do you have any CC lighting mods"

I recently installed "Simsi45_Reworked_&_Improved_EA_Lights", which seems primarily to tweak interior lighting to reduce glare on adjacent surfaces.

Well, the easiest thing to do would to remove the mod, start a new save series to test, buy that truck and see what happens. If there is no glow, put the mod back in and play that series again, to verify if the glow is present. If yes, there's your villain!

I also have simsi45's lighting mod and it works fine for me. The mod purpose is to improve the lights shaders and project more accurate on surfaces and furniture. It's not possible that that mod causes the glowing, but the bloom effect, that need to be turned off from GraphicRules.sgr > Advanced Rendering > post processing. Copy this line from the turned off setting and paste into turned on - that should remove the bloom.

@jgf

Did you managed to get rid of the bloom effect?

Instructions said this would also kill the headlights, but on my system at least it didn't.

Congrats on fixing the bloom!
I don't why EA made this effect, because for me it doesn't make the game look more realistic but the opposite.

About the dimmed screenshots you said you have Smooth Patch, right?

Bloom has it's time and place. Plumbots and a few other items use it. It's only an issue when something applies it where and when it isn't wanted... like most things.

Exactly. It's acceptable to have some bloom (but not so strong of course) on shiny metal surfaces, but on matte finish surfaces it's weird to have shine.
