Batman & Robin (USA, 1997)
This was supposed to be a big, flashy Batman movie, but it ended up being remembered mostly for the neon colors, terrible ice puns, and those infamous bat-nipples on the suits. Even actors like George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Uma Thurman couldn’t save it from the chaos.

My comment: It looks like a two-hour toy commercial mixed with a cartoon. The movie is so goofy it almost feels like a parody of Batman instead of a real film.

Rating: 3/10

The Avengers (1998). 9/10.This is the one based on the popular British TV series (of which I am a big fan) featuring Ralph Fiennes as Steed and Uma Thurman as Mrs Peel. And I just knew that, having thoroughly enjoyed this film, that I would look it up on-line afterwards and find that it was a box office flop and was thoroughly panned by the critics. Happens every time! I suppose I just have lousy taste in movies and ought to be embarrassed about it. Well, I have said before that I am no critic, and therefore see no reason why I should pay any attention to critics. If I am entertained, that is enough for me. And I was, so there!

Legend is history as we would like it to be. We pick through the dusts of time for what is worth keeping and, here and there, we occasionally find treasure.

S.W.A.T. (2003) 7/10.
Always rewatchable even if ridiculous things happen - I think older movies were better with suspesion of disbelief than newer movies.

Dead Man's Wire (2025) 9/10.
I actually took myself to the cinema for this guys and it cost me m o n e y. Definitely worth it though because the acting was fantastic! Each character represented different moods (I think): anger (pyschotic break??), anxiety, determination, confusion, disdain - they all did a great job. There were some parts where I had to cringe real hard because secondhand embarassment is real but made sense in the story so I allow it. What I didn't expect was to see show news footage from the real event at the end of the movie and I think it shows that they really studied that scene.

I am right now rewatching "The Man from Earth", and it is still one of the most brilliant low budgets movies out there.
The 7.8 rating is well deserved.
It is in my top ten of all times, including movies like Donnie Darko, Léon: The Professional, and such.

War of the Worlds (2005) - DVD. Certainly spectacular and the better for sticking closer to Wells' original concept and story than the 1953 classic did. 8/10

Fast X (20whatever)

Franchise went from cars crime and family (but fun) to whatever it is that they're doing now (not fun). I'm just doing to believe in the first 4 movies and just ignore the others

Arrival (2016, USA) Genre: Sci-Fi / Mystery / Drama

So, twelve alien ships suddenly park all over Earth, and the military brings in this badass linguist, Louise, to figure out what they actually want. While the whole world is freaking out and losing its mind, she scrambles to crack their weird language and ends up unlocking some crazy, mind-bending secrets about time and her own life.

Honestly, this movie is an absolute banger. Forget the usual alien-invasion explosions—Arrival is way smarter and hits you right in the feels. Amy Adams crushes it, and the plot twist at the end completely blew my mind. Definitely a must-watch.

My rating is 9.5/10.

Fall (2022)

Hunter and Becky decide to climb a 2,000 ft decomissioned TV tower in the middle of the desert, following the death of Becky's husband during a traumatic rock climbing accident. Hunter feels that climbing the tower will help Becky move on and heal from the loss. However, climbing the tower goes very, very wrong, and they find themselves stuck at the top on a small platform with no way down.

My rating 6.8/10.

The plot twist threw me for a loop, I'm not gonna lie. That really messed with me. The ending didn't feel as satisfying as I was hoping though. There are also a lot of elements that just don't make sense, like vultures don't just attack people for no reason, but this movie isn't really meant to be taken that seriously, IMO. If you watch it as a fun horror movie, something to watch on a random evening, it's fine for what it is.

They're going to be making sequels, so that will be interesting to see.

European made film:

Title: Another Round (2020, Denmark, Comedy / Drama)
Four high school teachers who are totally stuck in a midlife rut decide to test out a wild theory: that humans are actually born with a small alcohol deficit, and keeping a constant, mild buzz going will make them better, more creative teachers. At first, it totally works and their lives get way more exciting, but predictably, they keep pushing the limit, and the whole experiment starts spiraling out of control.
Honestly, this movie is an absolute ride and handles a super delicate topic perfectly. It manages to be hilarious, deeply sad, and deeply uplifting all at once without ever feeling preachy. Mads Mikkelsen is a total legend in it, and the final scene where he does this insane, celebratory dance routine is easily one of the coolest movie endings ever made.
My rating is 9/10.

I watched this, early last year (page 41 of this thread), and it didn't grab me at all. What happens when four men get the notion of staying constantly slightly inebriated is too predicatable.
If the drug of choice were THC it would perhaps make more sense, since it typically makes people see things from different perspectives, as opposed to alcohol, which usually just turns people into assholes, but probably would not appeal to as big of an audience. So money once again trumps artistry. Meh.

Totally get it, but the drinking is just an excuse for trying to cover a midlife crisis and doing something stupid to feel 'alive' again. It is definitely predictable. This was the second time I watched it - I didn't like it the first time either, but I kind of like it more now. It's got way more heart than a typical Hollywood movie, tbh. That's why I gave it such high rating...and probably because I'm too young to feel it from older adult perspective.

Nice to see a sequel that makes sense and reuniting the og cast. Would I watch it again? No, but I still had a good time watching it.

I was just planning to watch it soon. Hope it will be as good as the first one-the fact that the og cast is there makes it even more desirable!

Vivarium (2019): A young couple looking for the perfect home find themselves trapped in a mysterious, labyrinth-like neighborhood of identical houses.
My Comment: I've had this on my list to watch on Tubi for about a year now, on and off (mostly off). A weird one that reminds me of The Sims, with an unseen, omnipotent entity that provides sustenance to our protagonists - and then they dig holes in the front yard. As a film, I'll say it's mediocre at best, but Sims players might like it as a strange sidebar to playing the game.
Mediocre (4-6)
