Default realistic rural/rustic/farm fencing
Out in the hinterlands, fencing is usually meant to contain livestock or prevent egg-thieving predators. It isn't always that pretty, and so the suburban-picket-fence look of the Maxis options seem distinctly out of place when surrounding a hog farm. I have a LOT of fences in my CC folder, but somehow they just don't strike the right note. For one thing, they're the right height for separating your backyard from the neighbor's, but not for discouraging your horse from jumping over them. Also, the posts are far too close together on most of them. Fencing where the post only appears when you click the mouse are my favorite types, because I can easily control how far apart they are. Many Sim fences just auto-place the posts one square apart, which you'd never see on a farm.

I know: this is one of those posts where it would be REALLY helpful if I could get an image posted, but ImageShack is still giving me errors every time I try to upload, so I will attempt to give clear descriptions of the sort of fence I'm looking for. Just for clarity, the posts are the vertical supports, the rails are the horizontal pieces.

1. Three-rail wood fences, but ones where the posts are a bit higher - maybe shoulder-height on a Sim - and farther apart... 8 feet seems to be the standard in the real world, so at least 2 Sim-squares between posts. This kind also comes in metal rails, for use in horse pens and such, but I'd prefer wood.

2. Wood posts with wire fences running in between. (The posts could also be metal). Again, 2 squares apart minimum. This is the usual thing done for livestock. Some of the wires are just individual stands; some are in grid form, either woven or actually welded together. Something to keep your cows from wandering into traffic. Barbed-wire is okay too.

3. Chicken-wire mesh. If I had to guess, this would be painful to produce from the mesher's standpoint, because it's so thin. But hey - I know zilch about making meshes.

4. This is a real stretch: tall bird-netting, with tops as well as walls. The only top-fencing I've ever come across is jail bars in the form of floor tiles. So I doubt such a thing exists in a "net" form.

I DO already have some chain-link fencing that works well for the urban environment, but you hardly ever see chain-link in farm country - it's too expensive to use in the quantity you'd need to fence in several acres. Basically looking for bare-bones utilitarian fencing, as opposed to decorative. But not just plain derelict, either. I don't mind the dilapidated look here and there, but I want a fence that looks like it could keep sheep from escaping.

Yeah, I wish that worked for me. When I go advanced, instead of the upload box, I get a pixelly picture of a piece of paper with a sad face. My computer is just too old I think.

I have a 3to2 fence conversion by huge lunatic called "3to2 Hunter" that would work great for rural pastures but I don't remember where I got it from.
Are you there with the answer lunie????

Thanks all! The feeEssen, tvickie and MLC ones should give me enough choices to pick from. Garden of Shadows, I couldn't get to right now but I'll keep trying. Thanks again, I'm gonna call this one solved.
