@manicopossum

Eyyy, thank you! I'll make sure to include your translation in the next update :3
Good catch with the mistake in the Czech translation, too. Love it!

This mod made my game difficult and I like it! Burglar was too easy to avoid, I didn't even know that babies consider as non sleeping sims and prevent burglars to appear...Thank you for interesting mod

I'd love to test it! Can it be safely removed later if necessary?

@mila1195 - yes, this mod can be added and removed freely at any time, and the different versions (standard, no-Fires, Arsonist) are also interchangeable! There is no risk of interrupting any process since the game doesn't let you save during a burglary, and whatever extra data gets added by the mod is otherwise unused.

Thank you so much! So I can't wait to see my sims despair during the burglary.

I had a burglar break into my evil warlock sim's home for the first time since I installed this mod. My sim and his toddler son were asleep and the burglar spawned successfully. However, she only managed to take a few steps into their home before running away. Right after she left, my sim woke up. Is that supposed to happen? She didn't steal anything...

Hmmmm... This sounds like something a different mod might do.
Do you have any other mods relating to witches/warlocks and/or burglars?

And a few other questions concerning how the burglary went down:
1. Did any alarms go off?
2. Was there any dialogue displayed in the top right (such as "The burglar got away")?

Thanks in advance!

PS: If you'd like to do some extra testing to see if this issue happens with other households too, and you have never played Pleasantview before, you can enter the Caliente household and play until the first night, where a burglar is guaranteed to spawn.

For the witch/warlock related mods, I have Midge the tree's edited version of creature fixes, child-toddler witches, hereditary supernaturalism, and epi sims' witch lifespan mod.

For burglar related mods, I have your mod and AnyoneFightBurglars by reaper with no name, here on MTS.

1.) I don't use alarms in my game so no alarm went off.
2.) There was no notification saying the burglar got away. She took a few steps into the house and ran away. I tested a brand new pleasantview and the same thing happened in the caliente household. Gordon King came in to their home, lingered for a few seconds and ran off. In fact, I had to spawn him in myself

Huh, interesting.

That should never happen in this specific scenario. A brand new Pleasantview, unless you use a version that removes all scripted events, is guaranteed to have a Caliente family robbery in the first night.
I find it unlikely that my mod is causing these issues, as I do not change anything about how a burglar spawns and routes to their first target object.

I managed to get the burglar to spawn in the caliente household and after testing a million times, I found out that object freedom by fway was the culprit. I've removed it from my game for now, but I've messaged fway to let them know

Hi! I was wondering if I have done something wrong or if I've just been unlucky with the odds. Since installing this mod, zero of my households have been burgled. It just doesn't happen. I have smarter ep check, and I downloaded the tuneable, default version of the mod.
The mod itself actually works when I manually summon a burglar (Russ Bear set my sims bedroom alight and my sim died lol), but without manually summoning, it just doesn't happen. I know it's not supposed to be super common, but before I had a decent amount of robberies. I play rotationally through the seasons and I've played approximately three seasons across 18 different households. Do I need to manually tune the mod? If so, how do I go about doing that? Many thanks

Hiya! Sorry for the late response. I don't think this is normal. Statistically, yes, it is theoretically possible for no burglar to appear across three seasons in 18 different households, but the chance of that is 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000059%. That's less of a chance than the probability to reproduce the luck found in a cheated Minecraft speedrun.

My mod does not modify how often a burglar spawns, so the game's default rules for spawning a burglar apply, as per the "Burglar - Process" BHAV associated with the NPC Controller, and they are quite restricting, but usually at night these checks should return True and they're mostly there to make sure there's no flood of burglars.
The following criteria will cause the check whether to spawn a burglar to fail, in order:
  1. The current Day of Month (which is a value between 0 to 6, so the current weekday) equals the one where a burglar check was last performed.
  2. The current hour is not between 22 (10:00 PM earliest) and 3 (3:59 AM latest).
  3. There is an ongoing fire on the lot.
  4. Anyone on the lot is currently awake (minus the exceptions my mod applies, of course). This includes cats and dogs.
  5. A teen is currently sneaking out.
  6. The current Day of Month equals the one where a burglar last visited.
  7. Six days have not yet passed since the last time a burglar visited.
After all these checks have passed, the game checks if you or something else spawned a "Burglar Attractor Token", and if you did, a burglar spawns guaranteed. Otherwise, a random chance to spawn a burglar is rolled. The chance is 25% by default. It can be tuned, but again, this is not included in my mod.

While the NPC Controller runs its checks every 200 ticks, which is less than seven in-game seconds - because of that first check, there can only be a maximum of two burglar checks a day. One before midnight (if your Sims already are asleep by then, of course), and one after midnight (or whenever the last Sim falls asleep) because the Day of Month changes then.

With all that said... Please make sure there are no mods in your folder that, in one way or another, prevent burglars from appearing properly.
