Default Split character files? How to merge them?
I noticed that every single sim that I created in CAS or that was born in the last couple of years in my game has a split character file with the .1 at the end and I can‘t edit them in SimPe. I really want to edit them in SimPE and read merging both files would fix the problem but I can‘t find a tutorial on how to do that. I also can‘t find a cause for this problem.

Epi and Lamare posted some info on this not long ago, with some added info by others:

https://episims.tumblr.com/post/759...pty-face-glitch
https://lamare-sims.tumblr.com/post...r-files-testing (some ingame testing on split files / merging test / etc.)

It seems to most commonly be caused by certain types of mods, mainly mods that edit character templates (see the posts for more info, some of the known mods are listed).

I'd think the best way to get rid of the issue permanently would be to remove the mod(s?) that cause it. Wouldn't fix the already split files, but would stop future files from splitting.

You can still edit split character files in SimPE, just like you would any other package file. I think the sim surgery feature doesn't work, but that's it.

No you can not edit them since age data is missing

Thanks. I assume „character template“ doesn‘t mean face template right?

I don't think so, at least if you mean regular modded face templates or anything that includes these (default replacements, non-defaults). Seems to be a different type of template (see the list by Epi).

You can open the second part of the character file in SimPE manually. Be sure to backup your files first before doing anything though, as always!

I will choose a path that's clear- I will choose free will

Thank you this worked! I had no idea you could do that. Why isn‘t this the standard procedure instead of waiting ages for the neighborhood to load??

The Age Data is in one of the files, if it wasn't, you wouldn't be able to play that sim. The Age Data not being present in the other file also does not prevent SimPE from opening or editing it.

Under normal circumstances, opening the neighbourhood is easier since it gives you access to everything in an easy interface (sim browser etc). It's only when character files are split that things can get tricky. I've also noticed that some of my sims have the character file split differently- so different parts of the data in the original vs the .1 part of the character. This affects the way that SimPE and certain in-game mods work too, so what works for one split character file may be different for another.
