Default Cleaning cc Folder Listings
After placing cc in the Downloads Folder, it doesn't always install or show up in the Games Thumbnails, have to Delete manually.
Also, sometimes deleting cc using the Thumbnails Tool will erase the Object and Thumbnail in the Game, but it is still listed in the Downloads Folder List.

Very difficult to track with just Pen & Paper.
Buy now I must have thousands of cc Listed in the Downloads Folder that aren't in the Game.

Any good way to Clean out the Listed cc that doesn't have Thumbnails?

Should be ebough to just delete the files. There's a thumbnail copy in the thumbnail files (won't show if the actual item is gone), and there can be residual info in the cache files (delete those), but other than that, removed CC shouldn't be showing up ingame. If it is, something is going wrong in the deletion process.

Have you tried to search for the files? Could be you've got multiple copies, or they didn't delete properly.

It is safer to delete from the Downloads folder, as you can sometimes risk to leave stuff behind, or delete the wrong things when deleting from ingame, or occasionally won't properly delete them (potentially leaves behind duplicates, meshes, recolors, etc. depending on what kind of item you're deleting).

If you delete (or edit) CC, make sure to also delete the cache files.

If you've got synched backup programs (OneDrive, etc.) running side by side, those could potentially be the culprit (saves a copy of the deleted item).

The thumbnail files (+ the Cigen file) can be edited in SimPE to remove stuff you don't want there, but it doesn't seem like anything sorts properly in the files, so you're kinda stuck with either deleting the file(s) whole, or going through the whole file to delete what you don't want. If there's a lot of stuff that needs fixing, you're often better off regenerating the files. However, you can regenerate them once with the download files you tend to keep in, and keep those thumbnail files in there's a need to regenerate again (if you've got stable DRs, or just are tired of having to regenerate the files from scratch).

Have to say you completely lost me in the last paragraph.

I delete Thumbnail files and logs after each game. Cache files are deleted. Don't remember Cigen files.

To repeat: I am trying to find out which Downloads Folder listings are no longer in the playable Game.
Me? Sarcastic? Never.

Game thumbnails and Thumbnails tools? Do you mean the catalog? Where you pick objects from? Because if you start talking about thumbnails, most simmers are going to think you are referring to the Thumbnails.package. Which is what simmers last paragraph was about.

If you have cc not showing up in the catalog, then you probably need to do some 50/50 to root out the issue. If you delete cc from the in game catalog, then you will miss any recolors that you have installed.

I don't think thumbnail files have anything to do with your issue, if I understand well you deleted CC from within the game using the "trash" icon and you have leftover files in your downloads folder?

If you deleted objects from the build/buy catalog you may have orphan recolors left, and in the case of CAS items you may have orphan meshes. It's pretty hard to know what is what if your files are not named clearly.
You can use Delphy's Download organizer, it will tell you what type of CC each file is and provide tools to scan for orphans, duplicates, and to delete files.
You can also use Clean Installer to browse through your folders and look at the texture previews to identify what needs to be deleted (convenient for recolors)
If you have SimPE you could also open the files to have a closer look, especially if you have unknown meshes that can't be previewed with Clean installer.

Generally speaking I would recommend deleting CC from the downloads folder and not in game to avoid this kind of problem

I would go back to your original issue.

You make it sound as if this happens often. It shouldn't.

If CC is not showing you probably missed downloading a mesh for it. If you know what it is you can go back to the download and read it over to find the mesh. Sometimes the mesh is in another place.

Or maybe you installed a recolour of a Maxis item and it doesn't show because you don't have the needed CEP files.
Do you have CEP? https://modthesims.info/d/92541/the...5-may-2009.html

or maybe you installed items that need shaders enabled. https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?ti...aps_and_Shaders

And check that you have the _EnableColorOptionsGMND file in your download folder.

It seems like M. Oshima understands the question.
Thumbnails are not the issue.
‘Orphan Meshes’ is an excellent description of the problem.
Delphi Downloads Organizer sounds like a good Idea to try.
I Use Clean Installer all the time, unwanted recolors and duplicates for example or deleting if item is labeled well enough.
Deleting from the Downloads folder is what I’m trying to do, but it’s very difficult to recognize the items, may have vague description or just a number.
Don’t feel comfortable installing SimPE yet.

Having downloaded cc not show up does happen often, especially from ‘Brand X’ websites.
Not having Required Mesh can be an issue, I always check for it, also any Master Objects needed for recolors. CEP is installed.

I am simply trying to find ‘dud, orphan’ cc in my Downloads Folder, Items that do not currently show up in the Game.

If you want to remove objects, the easiest way (usually) is to put down an empty lot, then plop down all the items (and recolors) you want to delete. Package the lot, and open it with Clean Installer after exiting the game. Now you should have all the filenames of the meshes and the recolors.
(You don't need to install the lot).

Now you can look up all the items in your Downloads folder, and make sure you've deleted all of them, including any missed recolors, duplicates, potential repo'd meshes, if they're parts of sets you don't want to keep, or similar (always a good thing to check).

Revisit the lot and see if all the items have either been replaced with maxis items or are gone. You can bulldoze the lot, or remove the remaining items and reuse the lot again to remove other items. (If removed, build-type items like windows, doors, columns, etc. can crash the game, just so you're aware).

---

If downloaded CC doesn't show up, it's usually because you don't have the mesh for it. Make sure to read about the item so you don't miss out on any items that need to be downloaded separately.

For the CEP, make sure you don't remove the "_EnableColorOptionsGMND" file from Downloads.

- Object meshes are rarely "orphaned" (they show up), but "orphan" recolors without a mesh won't show.
- Repo'd meshes also show up, but if "orphaned" (without the master mesh) they will flash blue.
- CAS recolors show up, but not "orphan" CAS meshes (if a mesh is missing, the recolor thumbnail/item usually looks like a maxis item. Orphan meshes don't show at all).
