Default I MAJORLY effed up! Need help and advice please
Hello dear simmers!

I might have majorly messed up my game. Not in regards to corruption but because of bloat!

I made a custom neighbourhood and made every single sim, from townies, service townies, npcs the lot. The entire thing took me a month solid. I worked so hard on it, dressed every sim, added body hair to every sim, I mean I went in full detail

However, I used the bloody NPC and townie maker boolprop tool, and I obviously clicked either kill or skip, whatever options it was.

Anyway, when being in SimPE I noticed that I have 1500 character files, which made no sense to me, in total I should probably have 100-150. Anyway I investigated this further and every single skip, or kill has created character files in the homeless pool. I have literally 60 files called social worker for example

I’ve practically completed this new hood. I worked my ass off on it and really put a lot of love and heart into it.

My question is, is there a way that I can delete these character files so that I can only keep the “accepted” npcs I made?
Or do I have to now live with this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

P.s I’m aware none of these rejected or killed sims will appear in game. But they do show up in simpe, and “summon sim” mods

They can be killed and unlinked to reduce the size of the character to a minimum. I don't know if there is a safe way to entirely delete them. Unlinked neighbors are usually skipped from listings inside the game.

I make NPCs with my tool that I don't want to mention to avoid spam, one at a time, with full control for age and clothes.
Me? Sarcastic? Never.

Thank you for the tutorial, but I’m a bit confused, as there are sims I would want to keep, like all the townies I created and of course all my sims too. The only sims I’d want to delete are the gun townie maker rejects? But from this tutorial it seems it’s a way to delete every single sim in the neighbourhood?

You can delete just the sims you don't want to keep.

For deleting sims one by one:

(But skip the part on resetting the Sim Creation Index, because that step can create some issues further along)

Here's another one:

Another alternative is to extract the sims you want to keep with SimPE/Bodyshop and then start the hood over (if you do this, you'll have a copy of the sims if you ever need that).

What's best depends how much work you think each method is.

If you start over and don't want premade townies or stealth hoods, make sure to put in empty templates before making your hood. You'll likely also want various mods that prevent unnecessary NPCs from spawning. Otherwise, somewhere between 100 and 500 sims per hood tend to be game-generated towies/NPCs/strays/etc.

I followed this tutorial (the tumblr one)
However I’ve noticed that sims who I now make will get usernames that a previously deleted sim had? Example my newest sim I just created is named n001_user00595

When last sim I made before I followed this tutorial was n001_user01417

So I assume this is because the sim index ended up getting reset or something?

So even deleting the sim via SimPE in the SDCD then deleting the character file as tutorial said was not correct after all?

Did you make sure to skip the part about resetting the index?

Found this version, too (make sure to skip step 6, which involves resetting the index)
