Default University Says My Sim Already Has a Degree When They Do Not
I created a new Young Adult Sim last week, and I decided to enrol him into university so he can a degree in Computer Science. But when I arrive at the screen where you choose your Sim's degree and classes, it tells me that my Sim already has that degree and therefore cannot apply for it. Except he obviously doesn't have one yet, because he's only existed for five Sim weeks. This occurs with both University of Britechester and Foxbury Institute.

I've tried various trait-related mods like MCCC and chingyu to investigate and find some sort of evidence that he has the Computer Science trait and try to remove it. But all my investigation just shows that my Sim doesn't have any degrees, let alone one for Computer Science.

I then tried repairing my game, but this did not work. I then tried removing all my mods and loading the game back up, but this did not work either.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can fix the issue?

Thank you.

My only guess for the cause would be if you downloaded a sim from the gallery and then edited it, not knowing it had been played and has a degree. If you didn't, I genuinely have no clue. As for removing it, there's a mod that adds a cheat function to do just that: https://www.curseforge.com/sims4/mo...gree-cheat-code

Some traits can also give sims hidden buffs, and some hidden buffs have no timed countdown, so they remain forever on the sim even after the trait is removed. So even if you use mods to see that there is no Uni Degree Trait to remove, there may yet be a hidden buff on the sim from that trait - even with trait removed - that tells the game the sim still has the Degree. Use MC cheats again to remove all buffs. Hope this helps clean up your sim.

Late reply, but do you know what the names of the hidden university buffs are? I removed all buffs using MCCC, but it still says my sim has their old degree.

At the time I wrote that I was not 100 percent certain Uni traits give buffs too. But as a general rule, when deleting traits, it's best to also check if any lingering, connected buffs remain that will also need deleting.

But now, since you ask, I've looked and it appears Uni traits do not issue hidden buffs. But sims usually get more than one hidden trait per degree type. There's the one that has all correct data and uni thumb icon that you would instantly recognize - when seeing which traits to delete - then there's at least one more a sim gets, sometimes two more depending on degree, that are what I call the "lazy Maxis hidden traits." Where Maxis do not give it a name, title, description nor unique icon, just the llama icon. So they are almost impossible to decipher what they belong to or represent if your sim has several blank llama hidden traits. Unless a modder goes out of their way to edit the laziness and add some helpful, specific details, like a trait name at the very least, that then identifies it in the trait list.

Though MC trait remover might still help, as that lists traits by their xml name, - even if Maxis were too lazy to give it any other details, they still had to give it a relevant xml name - so you should see any extra traits relating to the specific degree. Looking something like - "trait_University_DegreeTraits_Type_Honors" or
"trait_University_DegreeTraits_Type_ArtsDegree" or "trait_University_DegreeTraits_ArtHistory" These are the three possible extra hidden traits a sim might also get that accompany the main trait for that type of degree. Art History in this case.

If you're only deleting the one, obvious trait per degree, it's not enough. It looks like there will always be another less obvious hidden trait, maybe two or three more. But their xml names should reveal the culprits when using MC to find and delete them.
