Default My game keeps crashing when I go to a community lot with lots of sims
My specs are as follows:

CPU: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900HX 2.20 GHz
RAM: 32.0 GB
GPU: NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4070 with 8GB of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM

As far as I'm aware that should be more than enough to run the sims 3 on max graphics? I've already tried removing my mods to see which is the culprit and I think it's because of a mod that adds more sims to a community lot. Here is the link to the mod. I used to use LazyDuchess' Lot Population mod, I thought it was because of the mod itself so I tried another community lot populating mod.

I think the reason why my game keeps crashing is because it couldn't handle too many sims in one location? But like I said, shouldn't my specs be more than enough? I don't even get lag in modern video games with ultra high settings so I'm very confused why my game keeps crashing .
I tried using this mod which is a crash analyzer for the sims 3 but it says my game keeps crashing because it has used up all of my memory. But when I open task manager while running the sims, it says I'm only using about 30-35% of my memory

The Sims 3 does not need a gaming computer to run well but besides having a compatible computer, the rest is up to the player to know the limits of the game as it is a 32-bit application. Which means TS3 cannot use more than 4 GB of RAM or maybe more precisely cannot use more than 3.7 or something like that. Unlike new games, it cannot access more RAM unless TS3 was rebuilt to be a 64-bit application.

When your graphic settings are high/maxed out and you use cc with high poly or install lots with an overabundance of items, that will cause the game to run out of memory a lot sooner than later. Therefore your playstyle can be a huge contributing factor besides computer hardware (if that's the issue) to using up the max memory a 32-bit is only capable of. Not to mention, yes, a lot of Sims take up memory as well. TS3 is a mostly CPU intensive game and also installing mods which uses the CPU also will dramatically affect the performance of TS3, not improve it.

There is a reason why the developers designed TS3 systems the way they did and when some try to override that and then complain how poorly the game runs is not the game's fault it is being overloaded with extra strain that is not present without mods/cc. Again, the players playstyle can often be the culprit to a poorly running game.

Generally speaking, some blame the game for their user error(s). It's no different than trying to mod any new game and put all the demanding mods in and complain how bad the game runs. The way I see it, there is rarely any education and factual information about mod use and responsibility in TS3 modding community. That's not to say no one warns of high poly content or such but I'm saying I have noticed over the years how many don't understand how mods affect their computer and/or game. To be honest, modding your game can be a rather advanced venture and it seems most including me even fall into placing too much workload on a 32-bit game.

Are mods even worth it? I have to keep asking myself that. Maybe some as long as it doesn't affect performance and I'm still cleaning out my mods and trying to avoid over cluttering lots because all those objects count as memory usage as well as all the Sims and basically the rendering of everything really. All of my Sims are about to become minimalists, lol.

Previous Game: Batman: Arkham Knight (Hard Mode/Unfinished-Another Time)

Current Game(s): ObsCure and Cyberpunk 2077

My money is on the mod. When I used to have the sim swarm bug, I could have as many as 60 sims on a lot, and my game never crashed. At the time, my specs were only a fraction of your current machine. Given that, I can only assume that the mod is the issue.

You don't need a mod for populated lots, BTW. No matter how much advice oldtimers give on this issue, no one wants to listen and insist on using mods. It's very easy to have populated lots. Have lots of sims with the traits that venues tend to attract; don't have more venues than your population can handle; only visit hot spots; don't overload the CPU, so that the game lessens the number of sims drawn to a venue.

Since igazor knows who the Three Stooges are, I'd say he's definitely a Boomer. Or maybe a Gen X, but nobody mentions those.

That, or he's married to a mental toddler "boomer" who watches them with our son. Hopefully, my husband teaches our son that running a bow saw across his friend's scalp does NOT cause the saw teeth to bend.

Yep. The kids are trying to "bait" us hardcore, though. I've been seeing a bunch of troll articles and posts about GenXers. GenXers are keeping hella quiet, not even responding to any of them, but then again, we were the generation that was made fun of for being apathetic, so it's finally playing to our advantage. We're all like, "Oh, the internet's saying stupid stuff about us again, like we sacrificed babies, bombed Pearl Harbor and killed JFK. Whatevs. What's for dinner?"
