Default One sided relationships with Premades?
Sadly at some point between my last rotation completion (backed up in July) and the start of my current, many of my Sims have lost their relationships with [*I]specifically[/I] the Premade sims.

On loading up the Pleasant household - currently housing Angela, Dustin and one of their two sons, Zachary - for this rotation, Angela tried to interact with Zach and was rejected, fulfilling her fear of losing him as a friend. Obviously this was super weird, as I was PRETTY certain that their relationship together was 100/100 for both. I check Zach. 3/3 relationship, and the 'just met' tag, with the family indicator missing. I swap to Angela - still friends on her end... I summon her other son, who is at 100/100 in her panels (with SimBlender). She's a complete stranger to him as well. I check the relationship on both sides with Dustin and Lilith, and the issue doesn't exist with them. Family trees and memories are still entirely intact with all involved, which as far as I understand is a good thing!

So, I close the game and open with SimPE, and realise the problem is far more widespread than I initially thought. I methodically make my way through the relations panel for each of my sims, working down by family. Not all, but quite a large number of relationships relating to the surviving Premades - Angela and Lilith Pleasant, Beau and Dustin Broke, Lucy Burb, Dirk Dreamer, and Cassandra and Alexander Goth - are showing entirely one sided (Premade knows sim, newer sim considers them a complete stranger), although their relationships to each other are still fine? I'm currently in the process of manually fixing and checking all relationships of every sim in my hood, with two SimPE windows open - one with my current save, and one looking at the relationship values of my last intact backup before this started.

I scoured the internet trying to see if anyone has run into a similar problem with no luck other than "sometimes the game just deletes SRELs". Is this a) indicative of a larger problem and b) something I can avoid happening again? I've already spent several hours going through each of my playable sims before I realised it seems to be regulated the OG's, and honestly do not want to go through this again haha.
I'm playing with the UC, this save is some 6 years old, and I am careful to avoid VBTs, have all the required corruption suppression mods, object.package on read only. Really can't pinpoint what's gone wrong, am just thankful that I HAVE backup I can reference 😅

I too find that SRELs are sometimes deleted in game for no obvious reason. One I especially remember is when my Sim Gloria Jones, created in my very first play session in November 2012, no longer knew her long term boyfriend (and now husband) Garry, even though they had been in a very strong romantic relationship since the earliest days of my game. In another case a teenage son no longer knew his mother, even though she lived with him and his boyfriend. In that case I spotted it quickly and quit without saving, so she didn't get a memory of losing him as best friend. In both cases the best I could do was restore the relationship with the Sim Manipulator and SimPE to roughly what I thought it ought to be. In these two cases the relationships very seldom dropped out of the high nineties, and none of them had any reason to fall out with each other. I'm pretty sure there must have been other lost SRELs that I just didn't notice. I mean if a non-romantic friendship between two townies becomes one-sided, you just won't notice unless you've been taking a special interest in them. You do seem to have been unlucky in losing so many important relationships at once, but I don't know of any reason why this should happen. Maybe somebody with a better understanding of the technical side of the game can help more.

The good news though is that, once you fixed them manually, these lost SRELs don't cause any long term problems. Both of those incidents occurred several years ago in our Veronaville neighbourhood, which I've been playing sice the very beginning of my game, and which will celebrate its 12th anniversary at the end of this month. Both those repaired relationships are still going strong. Gloria married Garry some four years ago. They're both Romance Sims, but they have in practice stayed quite faithful to each other for years. Dean Cameron's mum Carla no longer lives with him and his boyfriend, but that's only because she's fallen in love with Bianca Monty (a pre-made) and she married her earlier this year. She moved to Bianca's house on marriage, because Bianca owned her own house, but the house Carla was living in actually belonged to Dean's boyfriend Harry.

Lol yeah, I know it CAN happen but it's a big oof to have it all at once. Def crossing my fingers that someone understands the spaghetti code a little more and can shine some light!!

It's an undertaking and then some, but this makes me hopeful!! I've generally not had any other issues with the hood, and tbh most of the sims who are having issues are elders anyway, so another rotation or two and it won't matter too much, but obviously for the time being I want to fix it so there's no short term annoyances
Appreciate you weighing in!!

My experience of this is that data corruption (loss of data) usually happens if the game is running out of resources, or prevented from writing to files correctly. If you have a complex hood with large number of lots and characters, and lots of CC loaded, it's a lot for the game to keep in memory with only 4GB to play with. I would recommend to backup after each play session, and definitely before opening the hood in SimPE or installing new CC. Most likely the game ran out of memory during save or exit.

@simsample is no doubt right. When I had the two incidents described, I was still playing on my old netbook with its 2 GB of RAM. One thing I watch nowadays is that I have enough disk space before I start to play. My problem is that Windows 10 keeps restoring a lot of stuff that I've told it to permanently delete. In Microsoft-Speak "permanently" seems to mean "for a week".

Can the game not be made to access more than 4GB?

I've definitely got enough disk space overall and more than enough ram, but for sure have to keep in mind that TS2 is still a 32bit program and won't make use of it aha. My hood isn't SUPER complex, I play rotation/wants based and already have some 90 playables (between Pleasantview, Downtown and Bluewater) and that's too much at times haha. I play with a lot of my graphics settings at low or off, despite having a machine that is able to run with them on high no problem, mostly to avoid this exact kind of situation.

Will be backing up more frequently where possible, but without noticing it in game or checking each Sim after each session, I'm not sure if there's really a way to avoid it happening again. HoodChecker (understandably) doesn't pick it up as it's just missing SRELs, and the existing half is still valid. The weirdest thing to me is that it's only affected the oldest handful of SCID's - which makes sense to be the premades. They're almost all in different households, so my lil tech brain is curious where exactly it's run into the issue - as far as I can tell, nobody past Lucy Burb was affected!! So obviously it's had problems writing to sim data in the full neighborhood pkg but curious that it was so uniform?

I've experienced a small number of relationships deleted, which I discovered after opening a family after a long time and therefore could not pinpoint a cause. I suspect maybe one of my mods. It is easy to make mistake and write to relationships.
