Default Holiday Edition Crashes
Okay, I've got a brand new Holiday Edition (the whole edition, not the EP), that's crashing when I try to play. I have no EPs, hacks, or downloads. I've downloaded the TS2 patch, but when I try to run it, it says I've already got the most recent version of TS2.

I can get into Bodyshop, but when I try to actually go into the game itself, and try to choose a house or family, it chugs along a bit, and then finally crashes. I've removed and reinstalled several times. At this point I'm not sure whether it's an issue with my computer, or if there's a glitch in the game itself.

I've seen odd posts (here and elsewhere) about problems with the Holiday EP, but virtually nothing about the full Holiday Edition.

So, if anyone has any insight or suggestions at all, please help! I feel like I'm in the twilight zone here, because EAgames doesn't even have a Holiday Edition option on their registration form - just one for the EP.

I've removed and reinstalled several times.

Have you removed just via the add/remove, or completely scraped off (manually uninstalled?)

I went through the program menu: EA Games> The Sims 2> Uninstall The Sims 2.

Actually, I've tried to click onto your reinstall guide because I'd seen mention of manual uninstalling, and I get this: "Warning: mysql_connect( ): Too many connections in /home/sims2tec/public_html/article.php on line 12 I cannot connect to the database because: Too many connections".

Yes, there was a big error earlier which caused the site to fall over. It's back up now

The page you want is: http://www.sims2techguide.net/article.php?p=21

Thanks. Okay, did all that.

The tutorial doesn't give the registry edit key for the Holiday Edition, but when I went into the editor, EA Games is not there, so I guess I'll assume that it's all gone. I've double-checked and I have loads of disk space. (More than I'd expected, actually!)

Still no luck. Very disappointing. I was so psyched to finally get TS2.

As a suggestion to anyone else who has had this problem too- I was able to get the game running by deleting all three of the "starter" neighborhoods and starting a fresh neighborhood. I'm still not sure if there was a glitch in one of the existing lots, or what, but at least it's playing!

Default Game crash
I don't know if this will help because I don't have that version of the sims2, but, when I first tried to install and play the sims2 dvd it crashed and I did the install /unistall thing a billion times. I updated the drivers for my video card on the manufacturers website and then installed and the game ran fine, so try updating your drivers. Hope this helps!!

More often than not, it's a hack/boolprop that's got tangled into the neighborhood or character files. However on occasion it can be the graphics drivers yes.
Anyone needing guidance in upgrading their drivers should read this post: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthre...3221#post803221

Thanks Alex for the idea
