Default Deleting townies in an existing neighborhood?
Okay, so I have this neighborhood I made for my legacy, problem is, there's already a bunch of characters I created for it. I want to delete the townies, NPCs, dormies, etc., and make new ones, but I don't know how to do that without removing my already made characters. Help?

You can't delete sims without corrupting your hood. Well there may be some complicated way, but it would be a massive task to delete the normal amount a regular custom hood produces. If you have added the Maty hacks that prevent new NPC's from sporning you other alternative is to kill them all off. Using a the cheat 'delete all characters' will corrupt your hood as well.

I have a few townies I would like to get rid off myself. Is it ok to add the MATY hacks mid game ? How many hacks are there ? I thought there was 1 for townies and one for NPC, is that correct ? or are there more. Before I added any CAS sims I deleted all the characters in the folder, but of course as you play they get added slowly again.

I don't know the details of just how townies can be safely deleted but I don't think it's done by simply deleting all the characters in the folder! The Maty hacks just stop new ones from sporning they don't delete them. I think you need to post a thread asking about clean or empty templates-again not something I have done myself, I just have the antiredundancy mod that prevents spawning of unnecessary NPCs as I am quite happy to have the usual townies wandering around.

You'd be better off using a clean template before creating the neighborhood. No idea if there is a way to get rid of them (other than killing them) once a neighborhood is started. I don't think killing and not allowing replacement of the service NPCs would be a good idea - no mail, paper, delivery people and such couldn't be good.

NO, deleting characters in the folder is not the safe way to delete characters.

Your neighborhood might last longer if it had never been played before you did that, but it's corrupt now. Mootilda's Hood checker might be able to salvage it, but the "safe" way to delete characters is a lengthy process involving SImPE.

I deleted the character before it was ever played I created a new neighborhood and then closed the game and deleted them. I did not delete them after I had started playing it . I did read that will corrupt the game. but I also thought it was ok as long as the neighborhood had not been played it was ok.

It's never okay to delete sims. Except as Ghost sdoj said via a lengthy process via simpe. If they had been played you would have more things wrong, but not being played at all is no guarantee that your hood will stay playable.

You were wrong. By deleting the character files without removing all of the references to those characters in the neighborhood, you've created a neighborhood full of invalid references. Each one of those invalid references is a point of corruption which can spread out through your neighborhood. The neighborhood is now corrupt and probably cannot be fixed.

You will want to familiarize yourself with these guidelines:

To safely remove sims from a neighborhood, you could try this:

Note that this technique will not fix your already-corrupted neighborhood.

Thank you for clearing this up for me. Could you point me in the direction of a tutorial for setting up a new hood ? This one is fairly new so i would be ok with restarting now rather than later. Thanks for all the input

I don't know of a perfect tutorial which discusses everything, however, here are a couple of tutorials about setting up a new hood. I can't vouch for either of them.

This one is more of a list of things to do than a tutorial:

Apart from hacks to gameplay, you should think about:

1. cleaned 'hood templates to stop the critturs et al appearing in every 'hood the first time you play (see Peasantry)
2. clean versions of the maxis 'hoods if you're going to restart (Peasantry - NB empty is much more radical than clean!)
3. default replacement skins (lots of options, but all better than maxis fugglies)
4. a camera mod that lets you get to the edges of the 'hood
5. plasticbox's lighting fix gets the sunlight the right way round http://linna.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=325634
6. The CEP files, without much CC isn't recolourable and your CC won't load
7. extra lot sizes if you plan on building a lot (MTS2?)
This one seems to be more of a tutorial:
http://rikkulidea.livejournal.com/23530.html
The tutorial is named "A REALLY Custom Hood" and starts about halfway down the page.

In addition, you'll probably want to think about installing several mods. You'll probably want all (5?) of the nogen mods from MATY, to prevent an overabundance of townies. You'll probably also want some of the mods which fix critical bugs in the game. Here's an (incomplete) list:

Thank you so much. At times I have trouble figuring out which fixes I need or not, because I have all of the bundled disc for example double deluxe, best of business and so on ..

If you have Fun with Pets, you probably have the latest Store Edition. That means that you need mods which are compatible with Mansion and Garden.

By the way, there's no need to quote my entire post, especially if no one has posted between my post and yours.

I know this thread has not had a reply in 84 months. However I was wondering If anyone knew how to remove townies for the Sims 2 Super Collection on a Mac?

The same way as the full game, you need clean and empty templates.
