Default If TS4 isn't successfull there will be no TS5 - SimGuruGrant
ohh! This is interesting.
By successfull does he mean beat TS3 first week sales? Because I don't think that will happen...

Why? Because you can't drown sims no more? Or because there's no more musical cribs and toddlers that pass out and block the stairways, or make messes in the bathroom from playing with the toilet? Or because of the lack of incompetent nannies that complain about low bladder needs while carrying a toddler just a few steps away from the bathroom, and then wet themselves? And what about the lack of puddle-rage? Puddle-rage is so awezzzzome!

It kind of feels like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

EA makes not so good game.
EA expects great sales from not so good game.
Not so good game does not so good.
Your fault not so good game sells bad.
Boo, we no make not so good games again.

Edit: Over 30 Agrees? Thank you, thank you very much.

Not-so-daily TS2 downloads @ my simblr.

No way this disaster outsells TS3, With TS3 you only had a lot of TS2 players not buying it. With TS4 you'll have a lot of TS2 and TS3 players not buying it

I'm taking this with a very big pinch of salt. Presumably he's just trying to encourage fans of the series who don't like the looks of this installment to buy it rather than just waiting for TS5. Unless the game totally, totally flops, I find it hard to believe EA would dump such a successful series. If TS4 underperforms, it should be obvious to them why that is (and that it's not due to lack of interest in the series as a whole).

As much as I'm sure you'd love for EA to make a statement you can nail them to later, I doubt whether they're going to come out and say "Well, it's been seven days and it hasn't sold as many as TS3. We'd better close up shop. Then kill ourselves, you know, just to be safe."

I doubt that Sims 4 will beat Sims 3. At best, the way things are going right now, the game will get another half-star on Amazon, which Sims 3 did months later (it hovered around three stars for a while).

However, it's way too soon now to speculate about Sims 5. Way, way too soon. If EA finally does the right thing and gives you folks content-packed expansions with the mods many of you crave, and doesn't charge $40 US an expansion, or much better yet, offer attractive free content throughout the series, this series can perk up significantly, and those lower initial ratings may also perk up if later players have a change of heart and are more-predisposed to be generous with their praise.

Problem is, will EA step up to the plate? Hmmmm .... no, I wouldn't bet any sort of currency on that.

He does sound a little frustrated, though. Perhaps EA is not getting the desired initial response it hoped for. But it can tout its chart standings. Its preorders seemed decent. And again, if this game is indeed in trouble, it is not too late for those EA devs to get together and make it right. I hope for the sake of you Sims 4 players that EA realizes that.

If Sims 4 mega-flops horribly like y'all hoped it would, they're not going to be like "welp that wasn't what the fans wanted" and then go and make Sims 5 the second coming of Sims 2. They just won't make a Sims 5. That's not really a life-changing revelation. But I think they're doing okay.

Grant seems pissed tho...

Maybe they'll release a poolz & toddlerz patch. I mean, this wouldn't be the first time they did the 'smooth talk' interaction with us.

I wouldn't interpret success by having to do better than Sims 3, but by turning enough of a profit to be viable and worth the effort. Most businesses do not continue with a line if it doesn't meet the sales quota.

Are you f-ing kidding me?

They should at least release physical copy of (the one and only) the sims 2 ultimate collection.

They still sell the sims 1 complete collection??

I don't hope it will fail. I don't think it will mega-flop, either. But it may pale greatly next to its three siblings, yes.

I DO hope that EA will stop drinking or smoking whatever it's using out there and finally get its act together. I feel those who play this game deserve much better.

And really, if I can't even predict what's going to happen next month, I don't expect EA to predict what will happen in around five years. Five years is a long, long time. Technology, demographics and preferences can change drastically in that time.

I do agree with kennyinbmore (again? Technically, I'm on the "other side" here ) that EA is in a pickle. What it might be hoping not to happen may happen ... a clear division between Sims 2, 3 and 4 players. And now you have two older diehard groups to contend with instead of one.

BTW, I think EA is trying to make us forget about Sims 1 as well. I don't believe they're selling the Sims 1 Complete Collection anymore. I don't see it on the website. (Just looked to make sure I haven't totally lost it.)

There has been a very odd thing that I saw with both TS4 and the new SimCity game in articles and/or quotes from people on the development teams. In both cases they used the term "our vision". In both cases I've been struck at how odd. Sure, a game developer has a vision of what they're trying to create but the end goal is to make something that will make players love that game, at least providing they want to sell it so it seems to me developers would be saying, "Hey, this is what we think should happen but how will this be received by the public?" first and foremost. We know there are people on those teams who read and sometimes have taken suggestions from the community at large to add to these games over the years. The Sims has been a hugely successful franchise since the start, I would think if this one isn't a success they should be asking themselves why and rethinking. Instead, it would appear with this go-round they've taken something else to heart, which is to learn how to take their toys and go home.

TS2 has nothing to do with sales of TS4, but they don't still sell The Sims Complete Collection. *Someone* sells it on Amazon, but it's an unofficial source.

Obviously he will have an underlying motive to promote/sell Sims 4 so I'm not sure how much truth is in what he says. But just looking at his responses I'm not sure there will be a Sims 5 seeing as "something has to pay for it"

Of course we're trying to sell copies -- that's how we keep our job. But, I'm not here dropping sales links and such. Hopefully me being here improves your feelings towards the game. If it doesn't? That's fine too, (gulp), but I'm not doing anything nefarious here.

They stopped making and selling that a loooong time ago. The website also went away, along with all those cool Maxis downloads and programs. That either happened sometime towards the end of the production of Sims 2 expansions or shortly afterward. It's not that they are trying to make anyone forget, it's just that they have moved on and are no longer making the CDs. Now, if only they would bring that back...but they'd have to have enough of a make it profitable and I wouldn't ever expect them to support it.

Pretty much.

A failure likely means that EA will shelf the Sims series for a while. It's not going to happen though, I doubt the game is going to fail though.

It seems all he's saying is that making games is expensive and it'll be hard to fund TS5 if TS4 fails. EA may not be too into funding a franchise on the down trend. Would be ironic because EA is the reason we even have a sims, when Will Wright shopped the idea it wasn't very popular after all.

All I can say is: make a good game and they will come. The longer and the more people feel ripped off, the less chance there is they will buy the next installment.

There is always something new, eventually, there might be something better.

It makes me sad that TS3 has made me a very cynical customer about the Sims and I was very much hoping for a game that improved on TS2 and TS3 but right now, I'm not at all optimistic. And this veiled statement that it is up to the customer to make it a success is frankly, insulting. I might be overreacting. Always a possibility.

I guess the most important question those at EA should be asking is what's the reason for the down trend? If they can honestly answer that without the BS of "Well, the fans are really complaining because of social hierarchy" then they may reverse the trend.

Wouldn't that be nice? But those things cost money, and if they can't scrape up enough to even make a Sims 5, it ain't gonna happen.

On a quick unrelated note, I've just found myself on a page where someone has asked "So Mr Sim Guru Grant can you tell me if we' ll ever see toddlers and pools in TS4... ever " to which Grant has simply replied "At this time I can't." That seems to suggest to me there aren't. Surely if it was in the pipeline or being figured out he'd just say they were planning it, rather than saying he can't reveal anything at all. :/
