Default Site loads unbelievable slow
I’ve been having a problem with this site for several months now. I’m not exactly sure when it started, but everything worked perfectly fine before. At some point, images on the site began loading extremely slowly, often they don’t load at all and just show a "broken picture" icon. For a long time, I thought it was an issue with the site itself because it happens on every browser, even on my phone. But today, I discovered that if I switch my internet connection to mobile data, everything loads super fast, even though the speeds of both internet connections are the same. So, for some reason, the site doesn’t work properly only on my home Wi-Fi, and I have no idea why.

This is the speed of my home Wi-Fi:

And this is the speed of my mobile internet:

It doesn’t make any sense. I have no problem with any other site, just MTS.

I’m not sure if it’s relevant, but my Wi-Fi provider is T-Mobile, and my mobile internet provider is Orange.

Please help. This issue has even made me stop visiting the site and checking new uploads, it is a nightmare. Here is a video illustrating the problem: link

@Lenna9 First thing to do would be to check on a browser that has site history and cookies cleared (you'll need to login again so be sure to have your password handy).

I will choose a path that's clear- I will choose free will

I've already done it, it's not a browser issue, it happens on every browser I've tried (Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Edge), even on my phone, cleared cache, history, everything.

Unfortunately I can't view the vimeo video as I don't have an account there.

Does the same issue persist if you use https://direct.modthesims.info/ ? Is it *only* the images that load slowly? What about downloading files? Do you have any home firewalls or anything like that?

Images are all loaded from a single domain: https://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/ so it sounds like your ISP or home wifi has an issue with it. Try just going to https://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/ directly and see if you get a normal page.

Unfortunately yes.

Everything seems to load slowly, it's just most noticeable with images. Download speed is around 100 KB/s on my home Wi-Fi, and 2,5 MB/s on mobile internet.

I have a firewall but only on the laptop, and the problem also occurs on my phone.

This page only displays the text ”If you can see this you should be able to download thumbnails and images OK. ".

From what I remember, the problem started somehow in June, before that everything worked normally.

Hello @Lenna9
I don't know if it is relevant, but since earlier the year, for me, accessing Mod The Sims on my mobile has been a lot better than it ever was. I am now able to see so much more data.

Are you using Windows on your laptop or desktop?
I have a laptop with Windows 10 and initially when I turn it on and go to Mod The Sims, the first time loading is like a week in the jail, with adverts loading extremely slowly - sometimes it grinds to a complete halt and I leave the site and close the internet. I can't even get as far as logging in. However later (keeping the laptop on) if I return, there is no issue.

I don't know if this helps or not?

BTW, I think the speed of your internet seems fairly low but probably okay for one gadget.

I have Windows 10. For me, loading is slow no matter how long I have the laptop on. Sometimes it's a little faster and I'm able to actually load anything (slowly, but still), and sometimes it doesn't work at all ("broken picture" icons). But I don't know what it depends on.

I know that my internet is not the fastest in the world, but it's good enough for my needs. Unfortunately, where I live, I don't have much choice.

As far as I recall, no significant changes where made to the site in June. I don't think this actually is a site issue anyway since it works from your mobile connection. It's got to be some kind of ISP/routing issue.

If you try going to https://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/test.html and see if images there load. That's a simple HTML page - nothing more, so if that doesn't work then try https://thumbs.modthesims.info/test.html (same page but different domain)

Both sites load slow as hell. And again, super fast on a mobile connection.
What can I do if it's an ISP issue? Every other site works the same on Wi-Fi and mobile data (I even checked it again now to make sure).

Hello @Lenna9
I know in your earliest post that you clear browsing history from your computer.
How frequently do you do computer maintenance - disk clean-up, defragment your files and use a registry cleaner?

This will help your computer to perform better; but my gut feeling is one of your internet settings.
If you go into Settings, then Privacy Search and Services you will be able to view the Tracking and how many times trackers have been blocked from sites. The results may surprise you.

My laptop is shitty as hell and no maintenance will help it, this thing barely works, I only use it because I don't have access to my PC right now.
But that's not the issue here, as it works fine on mobile data (I used a hotspot to use the mobile connection on the laptop).

I don't use Edge as my main browser so I don't even have such an option.

Hello @Lenna9
Microsoft Edge cannot be removed from computers, and continues to be updated with Microsoft Updates whether it is used or not.

I am using my Windows 10 laptop just now, and what I have done is remove all the recommended websites that I never use. These sites have a lot of trackers which are still running in the background of your computer and slowing your computer down. I couldn't believe the difference it made to be visiting Mod the Sims website - wow!

I know you are using another browser, but I would recommend opening Microsoft Edge and removing these recommended websites, closing it and then use your own browser. Perhaps computer maintenance of disk clean-up and defragmenting your C drive may also help.

Good luck!

I'm not sure what you mean by "removing recommended websites". Where can I find such an option?
I have already the tracking prevention in my Firefox browser, so I don't think it will make any difference. I don't have much knowledge about website trackers, but I don't think they work that way, I think they are stored in the browser.

Anyway, thanks for trying to help.

Hello @Lenna9
This is me on my laptop accessing Mod the Sims so quickly - I wish I had done this a few months ago.

If you open Microsoft Edge, there will be a list of websites displayed across the top of the page - I would show you but I have removed mine.
Beside each site there are some dots (left click for the options), select "remove". After removing these websites, close Microsoft Edge.

I would recommend some computer maintenance; and possibly have a look at your Firefox browser - consider removing any favourites websites that you no longer use. Another suggestion is to remove programs that you no longer use. This will keep your computer in tiptop shape.

If the same computer works fine on a different internet connection (home internet vs mobile hotspot) then it's not a browser or PC issue.

I discovered something interesting. I turned on the VPN and set the location to America, to my surprise MTS started loading really fast, not as fast as on a mobile connection, but still the difference is huge.
I did some research and I have tried:
  • Changing the DNS server
  • Flushing the DNS with the ipconfig /flushdns command
  • Disabling IPv6
None of this helped.
I'd really like to know how to fix this, but if there is no better solution, I will use a VPN.

I'm not sure if they are related but Sim file share is also loading very slowly. Trying to download a decent sized download for @AndrewGloria as a test and it says 48 minutes left.

Not related as SFS is on an entirely different host at an entirely different datacenter (and country)

Hello@Tashiketh
I should have also stated that my laptop is located at my caravan and I use a mobile dongo which doesn't have the same speeds as my full fibre internet at home. The internet has never worked great for my laptop even at home.

Currently still at my caravan, and accessing this site is an absolute breeze for me now.
