This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Download clothing not clear
Hi,
I am running Sims2 on my Windows 11 desktop. I had a total crash a while back (I was away so assume someone in house did an oopsie ).

I had been using a dell monitor and one of my sons gave me a Samsung tv (27 or 32? ") and I installed that. I am having trouble with sizing the window but live with it.

The biggest problem I have right now that I assume is graphic related is downloads that used to look great show up oddly in the "Make a sim" or "shopping" modes. ie
Overalls for little girls now look like ripped and shredded outfits. Some outfits for older sims that have say fur topped boots appear to have flesh where the fur goes etc. It looks strange/creepy. *I can dress them, and it looks fine.

Why does it look okay on a sim but not in the other mode? Is there a way I can fix that? I "assume" it best to delete those files?

I did read somewhere this is a graphics issue, but I don't understand how if it is fine on the sim, but the other area is so ... creepy

Thank you for any help

Can you provide pictures of the issues?

I don't have any experience in using a TV monitor for gaming, but some sources say it can cause input lag.

1: Make sure "Sim/object detail" and "Texture detail" are set to high in the graphic settings. CC clothes/hair normally don't have low-definition options, so they won't show up properly unless you've got these settings on high.

2: Could be an issue with either the cache files (delete "accessory.cache" and "Groups.cache") or the thumbnail files in "...Documents/The Sims 2/Thumbnails" (can be deleted, they'll regenerate - "CASThumbnails" file in this case, but this will cause the game to load everything CAS-related slow, since all the thumbs have to regenerate and can in some cases cause pink-flashing if you have issues with that. Could be an idea to figure out if it's anything else first. They're not harmful to delete, just a bit tedious to regenerate).
In CAS you can regenerate thumbs one by one by holding Ctrl and Right-clicking the thumbnails (works for object thumbs, too). Doesn't work for the "change appearance/buy clothes" menus, but I think fixing them in CAS also fixes those. It's handy if you want to know if thumbs are the issue. If they fix themselves, they're likely the issue. If they don't, something else is wrong.

3: Make sure you've downloaded meshes

4: If clothes are repo'd (use textures from another set, often between ages - make sure to read before downloading), make sure you have that other set in your downloads.
This tends to be the "mesh details but naked texture" clothes.
Also make sure these aren't buried too deep in your downloads (entire folder path less than 256 characters). Windows no longer warns if items go over that limit (because it's usually not a problem, unless you're using a 32-bit program, which TS2 happens to be)

5: If you download clothes that are high-poly and get missing body parts (entirely missing), those items likely need shaders to work (boolProp UseShaders true) - shaders can cause graphic issues too, so it's not certain you'll want to turn them on. You can use lower-poly clothes/hair instead. (High-poly clothes and hair will not show properly in the NH family overview/lot loading screen, that's a known issue which currently doesn't have a fix).

6: Could be related to GraphicRules, if you're seeing graphic issues elsewhere, too. Have you set up your game properly?

7: Could be a mix of several - if you've moved things around after thumbnails have generated, repo'd items can occasionally show up weird in the menus but look fine on the sims.

I am going to go through your list this evening. I appreciate the input.

I don't find a lag with the tv monitor (I thought I had read somewhere they can be great to use). Shucks.

Tons of memory in the computer but if the Samsung TV monitor doesn't have needed graphics I'm not sure I would know.

I am sure to have all files/meshes. This seems to be mostly from one or two creators - it is definitely not across the board. Most of my files are great.

The "Input lag" can be an issue, but not necessarily. Has to do with lag between the computer and the monitor. Sometimes it's noticeable, sometimes not.

As for the graphics, check the settings ingame first. There's a button for "graphic settings" ingame.

Which creators? Could help in figuring it out (and sounds like either a repo or high-poly issue).
Do you have spesific links to items that are causing the problems?

The mds link for the overalls is https://modthesims.info/mydownloads.php Rosebine is the creator.

I am also having similar issues with a few by Fakepeeps7

Before my computer crash and reinstalling I had no issues with clothing downloads.

I am not able install lots at all with Windows 11. I hate that I cannot. I really luv'd some of them.

I am sorry it took me so long to get back to you - I appreciate the help.

That link goes to the page that shows the items the user has downloaded (when I click the link, it shows what I've downloaded, not what you've downloaded or Rosebine's items), so it's not much help.
I thik you mean these? https://modthesims.info/d/626094/mo...ld-version.html

As for the picture, can you upload a bigger one? It's tiny.

I think I can see what the issue is, though. It seems to be "mesh shows with naked texture" which usually is a sign of either a repo'd outfit that can't find the master texture, or an outfit with some other issue where the mesh and the texture file can be found, but for some reason not the texture itself (could be an issue with the files - are they Rosebine's originals, or default replacements?).

1: Make sure your files are not too deep in your Downloads folder. TS2 has a limit on 256 characters for the entire filepath (from C:\Users\...etc.) so if you've got very long file or folder names, or use more than 3 layers of folders, you'll want to check if the files are too deep.

2: Check if it's just the thumbnail (in CAS) - Ctrl + right-click the thumbnails to update them.

- Hello,
Yes, my apologies. I was distracted. I am not sure how people take a screen shot with EA open, so I took a photo with my phone and had trouble making it small enough. I will try again.

My game is completely on my D Drive. I will look at characters, but I don't think that is an issue. It is only a very few that I have used in the past.

For screenshots, you can do it with a screenshot program (Fraps, gadwin, etc.)
If you're on Windows 10/11, it has an inbuilt screenshot option, with the Windows button + the printscreen button together. The pictures save in a separate folder in the Pictures location. Occasionally you'll have to add the Fn button (I think?). It depends how your keyboard is set up.

It doesn't matter which drive your game is on (C was just an example), it's the file path length that matters (how many characters/letters/numbers/spaces/parenthesis/etc. the entire file path has. )

As an example,
"C:\Users\username\Documents\EA Games\The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection\Downloads\"
is roughly 80 characters.

Reasonably sure those are not any of the overalls by Rosebine (bottom is very different). Hazarding a guess (based on what the item looks like) I'd say likely a 3t2 or 4t2 conversion gone a bit wrong.

It's easiest if you can figure out exactly which outfits they are, and post a link to them. See if there's any tooltips (the yellow "hovertext" that appears if you mouse over the item) for them in CAS or Bodyshop.
